Message from the CEO
samira beckwithThis month, we celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 18 through 24. Although we appreciate your work every day, we want to offer a special thank-you at this time. Hope's volunteers truly deserve to be celebrated!

Our roots are in volunteering. As you know, Hope was founded by a group of caring people who envisioned a better life for the people of our community. Former President Bush once described a hospice volunteer as "a soldier in the army of compassion." That description applies to each of you, as you work to support our mission to provide exceptional care and support to every individual and their loved ones as they fulfill life's journey.

Each day, you add quality to our work and to the lives of those in our care. Many thousands of people in our community will always remember and appreciate your efforts.

As we observe National Volunteer Week, you have the gratitude of the entire Hope staff. Thank you for all that you do.
Ways to Volunteer
Lehigh Acres - Volunteer(s) needed to visit with a Hope patient, a young boy with Autism.  He likes to take a walk every afternoon after school, which helps him transition from home from school.  Help is appreciated any day; a regular scheduled day would be very helpful.  If you have an hour or so available in the afternoon, could you spend it walking one day a week?  Please call Lynnan if you are interested.

Cape Coral- Volunteer(s) needed to help elderly couple maintain their lawn and home. They have custody of their two (2) special needs grandchildren who are under Hope's care. They are in need of a one-time clean up crew, and possibly someone to stop by every other week to check in and help out. If you are interested, please contact Lynnan

11th Hour Volunteer Program
Sitting with a patient during the last hours of life is a privilege and the utmost sign of respect. When a patient does not have family present, or the family is exhausted or uncomfortable being alone when their loved one dies, an 11th Hour volunteer can be a tremendous help. These special volunteers are usually called to a nursing home, assisted living facility, private home or a hospice house when a patient has 24-48 hours to live. The hours and days vary depending on need. If you would like to be on the list to help, you will need to attend a special, two-hour class.

Hope Honor Guard and Veterans History Project Training
We are seeking volunteers passionate about honoring our U.S. Armed Forces Veterans. Hope Honor Guard is responsible for presenting patients with certificates and other items of appreciation for their service. The presentations, which often include family and friends of the Veteran, are very moving as the patient sometimes shares memories of military service. The presentations usually end with an official salute by an Honor Guard member who is a Veteran.  Volunteers who participate in this program will be required to adhere to a dress code, including a special beret provided by Hope.
