| Message from the CEO |
This has been one of our greatest years at Hope, thanks to our volunteers! You have given more than 94,000 hours of love and care to our community. Your time and talents were used in wonderful new ways, with the introduction of several special programs:
- Memorial Support Volunteers - We are now able to help families with funeral care preparation and other needs at the end of a loved one's life
- Hope Honor Guard - Our volunteers who are veterans of military service are working in support of our VALOR program, to provide special care to the veterans we serve.
- Parkinson Patient Support - With the addition of our Hope Parkinson Program, volunteers are helping patients and their families to live more comfortably.
- PIC Pals - Through our Partners in Care program, volunteers become buddies with children who are seriously ill.
In 2010, we have seen a substantial increase in the number of volunteers serving in our Eleventh Hour Program, to comfort patients and families in life's final moments. We have also added a large number of teen volunteers, who have developed mutually enjoyable relationships with our patients. Whether you are holding a patient's hand, helping other volunteers, organizing files, baking cookies or working at a community event, you are adding to the quality of life for those in our care. Without you, we would not be able achieve our mission to provide exceptional care and support to every individual and their loved ones as they fulfill life's journey. Thank you for all that you do, and best wishes in the New Year! | |

11th Hour
Volunteer Program*
Sitting with a patient during the last hours of life is a
privilege and the utmost sign of respect. When a patient does not have family present,
or the family is exhausted or uncomfortable being alone when their loved one
dies, an 11th Hour volunteer can be a tremendous help. These special
volunteers are usually called to a nursing home, assisted living
facility, private home or a hospice house when a patient has 24-48 hours to
live. The hours and days vary depending
on need. If you would like to be on the
list to help, you will need to attend a special, two-hour class.
