5 Cool Ideas for Motivation
From www.MichaelAngeloCaruso.com
Choice is a powerful motivator. When confronted with making a choice between pleasure or pain, people are often motivated to make the right decision. Here are 5 Cool Ideas for motivation.
1. There is always reward or consequence.
For everything we do, there is either reward or consequence. For everything we don't do, there is reward or consequence, as well. Reward and negative consequence are terrific motivators. When we assess a situation and make a good decision about what to do, we proactively generate a desirable result. That desired result reinforces our need to be rewarded again.
2. You never get to win the management game.
You just get to keep playing. And you only get to keep playing if you think five moves ahead of negative angels, underperformers and passive-aggressive personalities. For that matter, you never get to win the sales game or the relationship game either. My old friend and coach Joe Gilliam used to say that the only way to stay five moves ahead is to continually process new information.
3. Cancel negative info with positive info.
Negative angels deliver demotivating messages like "you're not good enough" and "that idea would never work." Negative angels can be coworkers, angry customers, bosses and family members. Positive angels deliver motivating messages like "you're exceptional" and "you can do it." Positive angels can be coworkers, angry customers, bosses and of course, family members. Positive angels can also be authors, seminar leaders and dead people, like Martin Luther King and Benjamin Franklin.
4. Pain will find you.
How's that for a motivational and upbeat idea? Like it or not, life will have pain and discomfort. Jobs will go away, natural disasters will occur and people will die. The goal is to be prepared for such situations by establishing a network of quality friends, a cache of material resources and a good outlook to help get you through the tough times.
5 . Priming the pump will keep you motivated.
In order to be motivated, you must take care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep and balance your schedule with work and play. Eliminate enough television time to allow for regular exercise and trips to the museum. Eat right because if you don't feel good about your life, you will never able to help others feel good about their lives.
