The Honor State Bank was a silver plus sponsor at the Manistee County Fair which was held September 1 - 5, 2009.  John Nale, Holly Waldo and Dixie Hoeh volunteered at the 4-H Auction on September 3rd and The Honor State Bank purchased a swine during the auction to be donated to Love Inc. in Manistee.  We had volunteers working during the week which included Pam Bagley, Jodi Hilliard, Marilee Johnson, Janice Bjorkquist and Sharon Churchill.  They were busy selling walking tacos, working at the Old Heifer's Booth and working at the grandstand events.

Positive Economic News (click links for full story)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. employment picture will stay bleak well into next year long after the recession ends, but the worst of the labor market crisis is over, top private economists said on Thursday.
Private economists polled for the Blue Chip Economic Indicators September survey say the unemployment rate will reach at least 10 percent in early 2010 and "recede from that level only grudgingly over the second half of the year".

LONDON (Reuters) - The G20 will promise this weekend to keep economic support packages in place until recovery is certain and seek to reassure financial markets they have credible plans to withdraw the stimulus when appropriate.

Your mother always told you to cover your mouth when you sneeze to prevent others from getting sick. In the age of H1N1, it remains good advice, and reminds us that every mother is an amateur epidemiologist. But if more mothers were amateur economists, they'd probably tell you to cover your mouth when you frown. That's because doing so could help prevent a recession.

I read the news today; oh, boy.

It's getting hard to be optimistic in the face of so much bad news: For the first time in 35 years, Social Security won't extend a cost-of-living increase in 2010, while Medicare premiums will be higher. Reduced business revenue has caused controllers to slash marketing budgets in an attempt to sustain operating income. Almost everyone's stock portfolio and 401k are down at least 40 percent. Warren Buffett and others are now warning of impending inflation. When things cost more, consumers tighten their belts even more.

To survive the low economic tide and position your company for future growth, consider the following trends:
