News from Amara

Dear Friends,

At Amara we find loving, adoptive homes for children, especially children in foster care. And our roots go even deeper. Amara was founded in 1921 as an orphanage. Our Medina Baby Home served "the babies of unmarried mothers." We provided children a nurturing home-like environment until we could find for them the right adoptive family.

Today, under our Choices program, Amara offers free, unbiased options counseling to women and couples facing an unplanned pregnancy. We provide them support during this critical time, no matter what they decide.

To learn more about the Choices program, I invite you to visit our new websiteI hope you will see that finding permanence for children is about families working together to meet children's needs.

Warm regards,
John Morse, Executive Director

A Forever Family for Kora

DeAnna and Elle always wanted to parent and many factors led them to choose adoption. As Elle says, "Why not help children already on this planet?" Today, Elle and DeAnna are grateful to everyone who helped bring their daughter Kora into their lives. "The staff at Amara was very supportive and right there with us," they say.

The couple met Kora when she was two months old. Her birthparents had contacted Amara because they wanted to find an adoptive family for Kora. And, they wanted to remain in contact with their daughter. Through Amara they met DeAnna and Elle, and selected them as adoptive parents for Kora.

DeAnna and Elle appreciate the ongoing relationship they have with Kora's birth parents. As DeAnna says, "We want what is best for Kora and for her to know her complete family."

Grateful for Amazing Family Pictures!

Photographer Julie Sotomura thought she would donate one day of her time. Three years later, she is one of Amara's most generous volunteers.

Julie has staffed our Family Photo Booth at Amara's Adoption Day celebration since 2008. And she just captured portraits of 13 Amara families, photos that enrich our website and printed materials.

"I'm so fortunate to be welcomed into the lives of the beautiful families that were created with help from Amara. From this intimate view, my vision of what love and family looks like continues to be refined and redefined," says Julie. Julie's work portrays the diversity of the families and children we serve at Amara.

Thank you, Julie, for your generous in-kind donations! Please find more information about Julie's work at www.photomura.com.
