 February 2011
Dear Friends,

With your help, last year Amara served 128 children and 468 families in preparing and supporting stable, loving homes for children who need them.

Some 2010 highlights include:

  • 59 children and their families celebrated the last step in the adoption process with a courtroom finalization. 26 were siblings welcomed together into a forever family.
  • We increased by 20% the number of families starting their adoption journey with Amara. We are pleased that more families are preparing to provide love and stability for the children in our community.
  • Amara received increased philanthropic support from our community. As a result, we begin 2011 fortified to pursue our goal of providing permanence for more children.

We are comforted to have your partnership as we move children from at-risk to at-home. Together we can help make possible the universe of opportunities that a forever family provides.

Warmest regards,

John Morse, Executive Director

Helping Children in Foster Care

"Amara helps create and build strong families for infants, children and teenagers in foster care, and I want to be a part of that," says Lynne Langseth. "By making regular financial contributions, I know that if I do nothing else good in a day, at least I've helped a foster child."

Lynne and her family, commited to helping children

In 2008, a good friend introduced Lynne to Amara. "We were talking about the challenges faced by teenagers who age out of the foster care system," says Lynne. "I'm a parent of two teenagers. I find it stunning that our community expects children in foster care to be self-supporting upon reaching the age of 18."

Lynne learned more about Amara's success preparing families to adopt children in foster care. Then she made a commitment of her own-she signed up as a monthly donor. Three years later, she continues to make monthly contributions.

We at Amara are grateful to our friends who choose to support Amara with regular monthly gifts. To learn more about becoming a monthly Amara donor, please email us or call 206.260.1704.

Reflections from a Single Adoptive Mom

"It is love," Anne says, that compelled her to become a foster-to-adopt parent through Amara. "Children in foster care are just kids and they need homes."

"When I attended the Amara orientation meeting, I felt that they were really supportive of every type of family. As a single parent, that was what drew me to the agency."

Anne fostered two children in need of homes. Today, Anne is the proud adoptive mom of five-year-old Sarah. "I can't imagine loving anyone more."

Anne is pleased that Sarah is able to have an open relationship with Sarah's birth mother. When asked why, Anne echoed Amara's child-centered approach: "It's good for Sarah to know her birth mom and to know she has two moms who love her."

Names have been changed to protect the family's privacy.
