July e News
Letter From Our CEO
Dear Perspectives Family,

It's summertime and no one is resting at Perspectives!  As you will read, our students are busy participating in a variety of summer programs while the Perspectives team of administrative and education staff is working daily to prepare for success in the coming year.
Even as we prepare for the upcoming school year, we would like to invite you to take a moment to join us in celebrating one of the key accomplishments of last year.  All spring I've been updating you on the status of our college acceptances.  We are now approaching the dates when we finally send off our high school graduates to their colleges.  Perspectives invites you to join us at our annual College Send Offs to wish our graduates well in the next phase of their lives.  The events will be held on the following two dates:
  • Tuesday, July 26th from noon to 2 p.m. in our Auburn Gresham campus courtyard at 8131 S May Street.

  • Wednesday, July 27th from noon to 2 p.m. at our Rodney D Joslin campus at 1930 S Archer Avenue.

Thank you in advance for your continued support for our work, I hope you can join us next week!

Our Corporate & Community Partners
2011 Internships

Ernst & Young's 2010-2011 Mentors and Interns

Thank you to our Corporate and Community Partners for their generous support!

Each year Perspectives matches junior year students with a mentor for a five-week internship, exposing them to prospective careers and the arena of the business world.  This past year, 375 juniors served internships with judges, lawyers, doctors, health care providers, engineers, teachers, museums, not-for-profits, restaurants, college professors, realtors, financial service providers, journalists, manufacturers, sales staff, architects, construction managers, technology experts, hair care professionals, consultants, childcare staff, police and security officers, bankers, musicians, personal trainers, morticians, economists, dentists, social workers, professional sports offices, regional transportation experts, retailers, accountants, and politicians.

Our long time corporate partner Ernst & Young introduced a new partner, Allstate--who took twelve interns--and several other first-time mentors to the process of hosting our students.  Board members David Baker, Director of External Affairs, IIT and Craige Stout, CEO of Stout Risius Ross hosted interns for the first time.

Please consider helping!  We need to place over 400 juniors in internships for the coming Fall and Winter.  To learn more about this program or to volunteer to host interns, please contact Jane Esser.

Summer Academics

Project SYNCERESchool is not out for many Perspectives Students!

Throughout each school year Perspectives works to ensure that many of our students are engaged in year-long learning by helping them to apply to prestigious summer programs.  This year, students are participating in the Phillips Academy Andover Program, IIT Boeing Scholars, Project Exploration's Girls Expedition and Science Giants, Mikva Challenge Speech, National Youth Summit, Project SYNCERE Regional Robotics, ACE for Engineering and Architecture, Alvin Alley Dance Camp, University of Southern California's Introduction to Photography, Pace University New York Summer Business Program, the Junior Executive Program at Indiana University, University of Chicago's Accelerated Math - and many more.

In addition, students have been selected to participate in exciting studies outside of the United States including Kenya, Madagascar, Peru, Ghana and Costa Rica.

Preparing for Another Successful School Year

As our students enjoy summer in variety of ways, the Perspectives  team is hard at work preparing for  another successful year. From painting and fixing our facilities, with the help of corpBack to Schoolorate partners Lundbeck and Ernst & Young, to registering new students - we are busy! To plan for continued academic success, our Principals are meeting weekly in July with Chief Education Officer and Co-Founder Kim Day to prepare to welcome over 300 staff and teachers to Perspectives Annual Network Day on August 10th. At this day-long orientation, the entire Perspectives staff will learn of Perspectives vision and goals for the 2011-12 school year. Over the following week, they meet in sessions to launch a collaborative planning process for each of their areas of responsibility. School starts August, 22, 2011.
