Perspectives Middle Academy

To fulfill the A Disciplined Life principle - Live a Healthy Lifestyle, Perspectives Middle Academy 6th graders worked with a chef from Chefs in the Classroom to learn about nutrition; taste testing foods to categorize them into food groups and learning how to make fruit parfaits!  Their work is just one aspect of their application for the USDA's Gold Award of Distinction that is sponsored by the Healthier US Schools Challenge and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools.  Perspectives is committed to rise to the challenge of US First Lady Michelle Obama to "Go for the Gold" by initiating in-school programming that will help reverse obesity and increase healthy eating  and fitness.

Demonstrating the A Disciplined Life principles to think critically, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and show compassion, Perspectives Middle Academy 8th graders participated in their final Community Action of the year by initiating partnerships with organizations that are truly doing amazing work in and around Chicago.  They went to PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) where they helped prepare items for the veterinary clinic, organized materials, and learned about animal rights, and worked with Interfaith House (a homeless shelter) where they learned about the organization and prepared spaghetti and brownies for the 57 residents of the shelter!
