Perspectives On-Site Health Center Underway
|
Perspectives Calumet Middle School and Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation
was awarded funding from Atlantic Philanthropies and LISC/Chicago to
establish our Elev8 initiative at Perspectives. This is a
comprehensive multi-year program that seeks to transform the educational
achievement and the life outcomes of middle school students and their families.
Together we have already achieved an exciting outcome of this program - opening
our on-site fully comprehensive adolescent focused Health Center. Perspectives
is proud to be the first charter school in Chicago to open a health center of this
caliber. Our Elev8 initiative also provides a range of supports such as
after-school programming for middle school students and their families.

Students Hold Forum on Youth Violence
|
Our city is faced with
devastating violence that affects our youth. The internet and the news media
have increased coverage building more awareness of our challenges in Chicago. At Perspectives,
students and teachers address issues of violence through A Disciplined Life©. This provides our students a forum to
share, discuss, and exchange - seeking alternative behavior and hopeful
strategies for change.
This month students at our
Rodney D. Joslin Campus chose to serve on a panel of high school students who
conducted and moderated sessions with the 6th, 7th, 8th,
and 9th graders. The students discussed issues such as
bullying, being a bystander, media irresponsibility, gang violence, and
creating a peaceful community.
