Lauren Taylor is a Finalist for Community Service Award

Junior Lauren Taylor has been chosen as one of six finalists for the Princeton Club of Georgia's annual Woodrow Wilson Community Service Award.  The award honors Atlanta area high school juniors who, through community involvement and personal initiative, best exemplify the ideals of service and volunteerism espoused by Woodrow Wilson, former President of the United States of America and of Princeton University.  Lauren will attend the ceremony in May at the Georgia Capitol and meet Governor Deal.  This is the second year in a row that BHS has had a finalist.

Math Team Takes 5th

Brookwood was 5th place overall in the Greater Atlanta Mathematics competition. Our Freshmen were 2nd place overall. Shushmita Hoque was 3rd place in the Oralist Competition overall. This is a very interesting part of the GAME; students have to study a chapter from a math book and use what they have learned to solve and present their solutions to a panel of judges. The topics this year were Taxicab Geometry, Matrix Games, Networks, and Divisibility Theory; none of the material is part of the high school curriculum). The high scoring freshmen were Bowen Ewe, Laboni Hoque, Ryan Chen, Corey Zheng, and Chase Butler. The same 5 freshmen were also the high scorers in the sophomore competition (they can take the tests for their current grade level and the one above that). We had about 80 students participate throughout the season and averaged about 20-25 students participating in each competition. We am very proud of all the students that participated this year.

A MESSAGE FROM ASPIRING GWINNETT PRINCIPAL BONNIE DRISCOLL

Bonnie Driscoll
Congrats to Bonnie, a soon-to-be graduate of the Leadership Academy for Aspiring Principals.

Greetings!

Hello Brookwood Community!  Thank you for welcoming me to BHS this semester. For those I have not had the pleasure to meet, I am currently an Assistant Principal at Peachtree Ridge High School and have had the unique opportunity to spend January to May with the most amazing individuals - Brookwood students, faculty, and staff! As a part of the GCPS Quality Plus Leader Academy for Aspiring Principals, I was fortunate to be placed as a resident at Brookwood High School with Debbie Dees. A unique component of this program includes a residency to ensure that leaders are equipped with knowledge, skills, and experience in preparation for future leadership opportunities.

I have experienced the most incredible time as a resident learning from Debbie and the talented faculty and staff here at BHS. I discovered that Brookwood is everything others believe and so much more. It has been an honor to be a Bronco!

I am so blessed to have been a part of the amazing work that contributes to Brookwood's excellence, even if just for a semester. There is something special here at BHS! I am proud to work with such dedicated teachers and see first-hand Broncos who succeed, lead, serve, perform, give, excel, and truly shine.

It is no surprise that this semester BHS students celebrated success in academics, fine arts, athletics, and student leadership. If you are a Bronco, your days are filled with:

  • Engaging, inspiring teaching and learning
  • Unparalleled student leadership
  • Bronco generosity beyond measure
  • A relentless commitment to excel
  • Countless bronco good deeds

All in all, the Brookwood community is a family committed to student success!

So as we come to the close of another school year, I would say that every day is a great day to be a Bronco!

Thanks again for a semester to remember!!

Girls Track Wins Region, Kissell Claims Seventh Individual Region Title

Kissel and Buda
Caroline Kissel's win in the 3200 and Ashley Buda's second place finish wrapped up the Region title for the Broncos and ended Parkview's three-year reign.

Brookwood ended Parkview's three-year reign as region champs in girls track because of its depth in the distance events.  The team racked up points when QuanDra Shanks and Claire Dunlap took first and second in the 800 and Caroline Kissel and Ashley Buda took first and second in the 3200.

At the region championship, senior Caroline Kissell claimed her seventh region title.  On day one, she won her 4th consecutive Region 1600 championship, winning the region 1600 title every year since she was a freshman. On day two, Caroline won her 3rd consecutive region 3200 title. In addition, Caroline holds two individual region titles in cross country and has won an unbelievable nine individual region crowns during her four years at Brookwood.

Boys Track Dominates at Region
