Farming for the Future: PASA Conference
PFEC was well represented at the 26th annual PASA (Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture) Conference in State College.
Our staff (Andy, Katie, Dennis, Margot) and several Board members (Anthony, Heather, Janice) joined 2,300 other sustainable farmers and their friends for 3 days of education and socialization.
Our farm staff specialized in soils, plant nutrition and organic disease prevention. Katie found the new research and resources for cover cropping really helpful. Dennis will visit the lecturer on low tech irrigation to gain hands-on experience. Andy will incorporate his learning into his upcoming classes on soils and pest management. Margot attended the business tracts and learned more about land leasing, financial systems and marketing. We all attended Food Alliance workshops and are planning our application for certification.
Our board members attended workshops on low income food provision, marketing, pig production, land leasing and "radical homemaking". Many of our vendors, neighboring farmers and renown experts were in attendance. It was wonderful to socialize and network. Now that we are 10 years old, we have great recognition in the PASA community. Stay tuned for an expected publication featuring our farm.............
