Farm Notes from Fred April 13, 2010 In the sweet springtime many people have the urge to
garden. Why not fulfill that urge,
and also meet your share duty obligation at Pennypack Farm?
Remember that CSA application? In the fine print you agreed to spend four hours per season
helping out at the farm. We have
tasks suitable for all abilities. We schedule regular share-duty days; check out the calendar at our web site. In
addition, you can drop by at other times and work alongside the farm crew.
You can do your hours in a single session, or in multiple
visits. Just be sure to sign in on
the clipboard by the front door of the Harvest House so we have a record of
your hours.
Springtime is an especially nice time to be out in the
fields; if it's rainy, the greenhouse plants require a lot of attention and you
will stay dry. Come the humid days
of summer, the farm tasks can seem a little more challenging. When the cool weather of fall rolls
around you will have one last shot at getting those hours done, but schedules
get crowded, and before you know it the chance to do your hours will slip by!
Remember you can't renew your membership in the CSA for 2011
if you do not fulfill your share duty at some point over the course of this
season. You can "buy out" your
share duty by paying $60 if you are really unable or prefer not to do the
labor.
See you down on the farm!
