Thank you to our staff for a wonderful year.
We are pleased to announce that all of our staff will return next season!

In case you were wondering what our staff will be doing over the winter, here is a summary:
  • Jessica will join Everybody's Kitchen and travel wherever they send her.
  • Dennis will be working and spending a month at Zen Mountain Monastery.
  • Margot, Andy and Fred will be planning for next year: raising money, improving the Local Foods Market, developing programs, working on infrastructure, ordering seeds and much more.
  • Raina will take some time off then rejoin us in January in her new position as farm educator.
Looking for a free-range, grass fed turkey?
We just heard that Gus Meyers has 15 broadbreasted white turkeys between 15-20 lbs available for purchase.
If you were not able to reserve one of our turkeys, you might be interested in these.

To reserve one of these 15 birds, email Margot ASAP at coordinator.pennypackfarm@gmail.com.
They will be frozen and available for pickup at the farm on Tuesday Nov 24th 2:30-7:30.
The price will be $3.50 per lb.
Reminder - 2010 CSA Shares
Current CSA members received invitations to sign up for next year earlier this week. Some of you are not able to access the form on your browsers. If you are having trouble, send an email to Margot at coordinator.pennypackfarm@gmail.com.

Current members are guaranteed a share for next year if their applications are received by Thanksgiving.

First half of families on the waitlist (those who signed up before May) will be invited to join the first week of December.

Forms and checks can be mailed or dropped off at the farm 8am-5pm Mon-Fri.

A Nov 4th Phila Inquirer Ad reads:
Thanksgiving Dinner for a family of 8 for under $20! Shop Walmart.
Turkey $.40/lb. canned green beans, canned cranberry sauce, 5 lbs of potatoes for $2, Heinz gravy, Stove Top stuffing and a pumpkin roll cake.

What does this mean for the farmers????? not to mention the poor nutritional value.

Save the Dates: Sustainability Movie Series
Pennypack introduces their first
"Sustainability Movie Series"

Stay involved over the winter and learn how small changes by individuals can lead to big differences for the world.  The movies will be shown on Tuesday nights at the Ambler Theater.  All movies will begin at 7:30pm.   A panel of speakers will lead an after-movie discussion.

January 12 - END OF THE LINE - reveals the impact of overfishing on our oceans.  Scientists predict that at the current rate of fishing, most seafood will be gone by 2048.  The movie points to solutions that are simple and doable and will ensure a supply of seafood for future generations.  Check out the trailer at www.endoftheline.com

February 9 - TAPPED - looks at the environmental damage and health risks created by bottled water.  Is access to clean drinking water a basic human right or a commodity to be bought and sold?  Just two startling facts - 40% of bottled water is just tap water (so why pay for it?) and two million tons of plastic garbage created by bottled water  is in landfills, or worse, in the ocean.  This movie will make you think twice before you pick up another plastic water bottle.  www.tappedthemovie.com

March 9 - FRESH - a positive look at how farmers, thinkers and business people across America are re-inventing our food system to forge healthier, sustainable alternatives to agri-business.  This movie will get you enthused about your food again and get you itching to be in the garden.

Tickets will be on-sale soon.  Check future Pennypack Pickings for more details.
