veggie logo Farm Orientation &
Local Foods Market

The member orientation on Sunday was wonderful, perfect weather, big crowds, lots of enthusiasm. Your response to the Local Foods Market was fantastic! It is gratifying to know that you appreciate this new service.  For those of you who could not make it to the orientation, I want to summarize a few things.

Introducing the Local Foods Market

Why we have developed the market?
You asked us to make locally grown/produced food more accessible and affordable. Prices are always lower than Whole Foods.

How do we choose products?
Our products:
  • Travel less than 100  miles
  • Affordable
  • Hormone free, grass fed, humane practices, no puppy mills, no GMO, some are certified organic
  • Taste great (we have been sampling all winter)
  • We know the vendors and their stories
Why eat Local?
  • Good for you: healthy fresh food.
  • Good for the community: keeps local farmers in business.
  • Good for the environment: reduces fossil fuel use, supports sustainable growing practices

veggie logo Four Worlds Bakery
Pennypack Farm supports local food producers by featuring their products in our Local Foods Market and by supporting direct purchases from the producer. Four Worlds Bakery is a local producer based in West Philly.

Michael "Challahman" Dolich, owner and head baker at Four Worlds, offers baked products rooted in a tradition where baking is an art form (thus artisan) and the breads are made with the upmost attention, hand work, care, and expression of our highest ideals.  He buys locally produced ingredients (including spelt, wheat, cranberries, butter, and milk) as much as possible.

Pennypack Farm is proud to assist Michael's marketing by being a drop site for his prepaid breads and pastries.  Friday is the current pick-up day for Four Worlds at Pennypack but a Wednesday pick-up could be available in the near future.  Michael is looking for volunteer drivers to help him offer a Wednesday pick-up at Pennypack as well as additional drivers for Friday.

All orders and payment are made directly with Michael via his website.  Visit the Four Worlds Bakery website to read more about the breads offered, sign up for the weekly emails, and place orders.

Quotes from Pennypack shareholders about Michael's breads
"Love the flour and the challah.  Thank you."
"As always - THANK YOU for your great living breads!"
"Love the croissants.  I will eat no other."
