News from the Master Gardener

February is a great time to start preparing your garden for spring blooms and veggies.  The average last frost date in the Metroplex is around March 14th.  Plan around this date and your garden will produce beautiful blooms and veggies from the beginning of Spring!

  • Cover tender plants with landscape fabric in case of frost or freeze.
  • Sow cool-season vegetable seeds directly into well prepared garden rows. Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale and potatoes should be planted 4 weeks before the last average frost date (around March 14th in the DFW Metroplex).
