Wear Your Blue Ribbon in Support of National Child Abuse Awareness Month
At RFK Children's Action Corps we join thousands of individuals, organizations and corporations in recognizing April as National Child Abuse Awareness Month. We will be displaying the Child Welfare League of America flags at our campuses as well as distributing blue ribbons in an effort to increase awareness of this important cause.
In 1989, the Blue Ribbon Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse took root as a grandmother from Virginia paid tribute to her grandson who died as a result of abuse. She tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car as a way to remember him and to alert her community to the tragedy of child abuse. The Blue Ribbon Campaign has since expanded across the country.
We can each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in communities. Share the positive message of supporting families and strengthening communities to prevent child abuse and neglect. Click here for more information about National Child Abuse Awareness Month and contact us for your blue ribbon today.

PeaceLove Brings Peace of Mind to Lancaster
This week, students at the Robert F. Kennedy Lancaster School experienced PeaceLove firsthand. PeaceLove is a growing community of mental health advocates and artists creating conversations of acceptance, hope and understanding. Check out some of the photos on our Facebook Album.
86% of kids in our care live with mental illness and disabilities. Many suffer from depression, post traumatic stress syndrome, detachment disorders, emotional and behavioral issues, and learning disorders, to name a few. Expressive arts therapy is a vital tool used in our programs. PeaceLove led two Paint4Peace™ workshops with our students. Paint4Peace™ is the original PeaceLove Program that teaches painting as a way to inspire, motivate, build self-confidence and deliver a message of hope, through creativity and artistic expression. With paint, foam brushes and canvas the students became artists as they found their voice in new means of self-expression. It is an experience intended for anyone searching to find peace of mind through creativity. The boys and girls really enjoyed themselves and the teachers commented on how nice it was to see the boys and girls smile, laugh and "just be kids". Thanks to PeaceLove the children in our care were given hope that they can overcome their struggles and find peace of mind in the simplest of things, like painting. We are so thankful PeaceLove brought their message of hope to our students. Check out PeaceLove and keep Children's Mental Health Awareness Week May 6 - 12, 2012 on your calendar! |

Our Supporters in Action

A Spotlight on:
The Roxbury Latin School
For eight years the seventh graders at the Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury have been shooting hoops to support the boys and girls at RFK Children's Action Corps. During the Annual Basketball Shootout the group of young men raise money by asking friends and family to support them in the activity in a "pay per completed shot" format.
Believe it or not, since 2005 the group has raised nearly $40,000! Not only is that a lot of successful shots but an enormous amount of hard work raising money and awareness for the boys and girls in our care.
Roxbury Latin School's principle goal is to instill their students with a commitment to a life characterized by honesty, simplicity, respect and concern for others. The generosity and care the faculty and boys have demonstrated throughout the years is truly admirable and they embody what the school's founders had envisioned over 300 years ago.
Thank you Roxbury Latin School for your continued partnership in the community! You are all MVPs!
