Greetings!
Throughout the month of March we asked you to share your favorite children's books with us and we received some great responses! Among the favorites were; Mama Llama books, Good Night Moon, The Giving Tree, and James and the Giant Peach. Thanks to generous supporters including St. Cecilia's Parish (read about their recent book drive below) we are helping children re-write stories of neglect, abuse, violence and fear to ones filled with hope and promise.
Donations throughout March will be used to purchase new books and reading tools for our children's libraries.
$100 Stocks a library and keeps kids reading for years
$50 Provides our digital learners with digital resources

Children of Promise: The Legacy of Robert F. Kennedy

We are thrilled to announce that RFK Children's Action Corps is being featured in an upcoming documentary, Children of Promise: The Legacy of Robert F. Kennedy on Friday, May 20th on ID, the Investigation Discovery Network.
Narrated by Mandy Patinkin, Children of Promise: The Legacy of Robert F. Kennedy examines the power of change, the strength of the human spirit, and Robert F. Kennedy's enduring vision for our nation's youth. Archival footage and interviews with Kennedy family members connect the life and work of RFK to the powerful stories of the young people whose lives have been turned around through the work of the agency.
Featured in the film are former clients along with the child care workers who were instrumental in the nurturing and treatment of these children. The youth in this documentary inspire us with their courage and resiliency as we learn of the turn of events in their young lives that led them to the RFK Children's Action Corps.

Third Sector New England Helps Transform Agency Culture
With a recent grant of $25,000 from Third Sector New England's Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, RFK Children's Action Corps' Cultural Competence Committee (CCC) is being funded to implement a cultural competence development plan following an assessment and study completed last year. The CCC has accomplished a great deal so far, and is poised under the current leadership of our Kennedy School Program Director and CCC Chair, Chris Montgomery, to bring their work to all facets and levels of the organization-from the Board of Directors to direct care staff, from training to policies and procedures. Fellows Program Opens Door to Students Who Want to Make a Difference
In many ways, Brittany Bryan is no different than her fellow seniors at Worcester State University. She does her assignments, socializes with friends, and thinks about life after college. But unlike some of her peers, who might be tempted to take it easy during their last months in school, Bryan has chosen another route. Three days a week she drops her books and travels the 20 or so miles from campus to her internship as a Residential Counselor at the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Children's Action Corps' Lancaster school. Read more in our Inside RFK Blog.

Our Supporters in Action A Spotlight on: St. Cecilia's Parish
In February, St. Cecilia's Parish held its annual Valentine's Day book drive to support RFK Children's Action Corps. In 2007, St. Cecilia's Parish, located in Back Bay, was looking for a project that the kids and families could get behind to benefit another group.
Mark Lippolt, St. Cecilia's parishioner and loyal friend of the RFK Children's Action Corps, has spearheaded this effort since its inception. "Many of us live in the Back Bay and do well socioeconomically, and it is in part due to our level of reading. We wanted to share our love of reading with the kids at RFK Children's Action Corps."
The February book drive has become a tradition in the church, and creates a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to bond while shopping for books together. The agency's programs provide a list of needed books in their libraries, so it is truly a project for the entire St. Cecilia's community.
Mark says that with an active parish with as many as 600 families, the book drive does not put a strain on anyone. "It's not that hard to accomplish our goal if everyone buys one or two books. They say it takes a village. Well, it takes a parish."
This year, St. Cecilia's donated almost 300 books and magazines, the highest ever, making the total books donated over the years to over 800 books! The children and staff at the RFK Children's Action Corps are truly grateful to St. Cecilia's Parish. The books will ensure that the boys and girls in our programs continue to achieve educational success while in our care and also when they go back into their communities.
