Get On Track to Reduce Waste

Are students and staff encouraged to bring their lunch in reusable containers? Is your school district holding No-Waste Meetings?  Is everything that can be recycled from the office, teacher's lounge and cafeteria being recycled? If not, start the new school year off on a "GREENer" foot.

Since 1992, the Agency has provided grant funds to assist schools in purchasing items that encourage waste reduction initiatives to include:

  • Reusable food containers, lunch bags, cloth napkins and beverage bottles
  • Reusable water pitchers and cups, silverware and trays
  • Recycling bins and toter carts
  • Indoor and outdoor compost bins
  • Dry-erase boards
  • Educational materials (books, DVDs, curricula)

In order to received grant funds, a school must be located in a member community. Grant applications are being accepted now through October 31, 2012, but funds are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications must highlight the waste reduction initiative and goal, and be signed by the Principal.
