Future City Project - Sign Up Now
Competition for Middle School Students
Teachers and their sixth, seventh or eighth grade students are invited to participate in the National Future City competition. Middle school students are asked to incorporate reused/recycled materials into a new city plan while solving real problems to include pollution, crime, traffic and unemployment. This program is sponsored by the National Engineers Week Committee, a consortium of engineering associations and major U.S. industries. Since 1951, this group has been the nationwide celebration of the engineering profession, sponsoring lectures, student outreach efforts, bridge building competitions and exhibitions of engineering achievements. Projects are designed on a computer then replicated into a three-dimensional model - a city of the future. Many of the schools that have participated in the program in prior years have incorporated the Future City project into their curriculum. The area's first place team wins a trip to Washington, DC for the national competition to be held during National Engineers Week, February 17-23, 2013.
