The United Nations (UN) sponsors the World Environment Day annually to promote global environmental action. It encourages people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations. It actually takes place all year long, but culminates on June 5 every year, involving projects from everywhere!
The World Environment Day celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become a main vehicle through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action. To organize an event, like cleaning-up a neighborhood, planting trees or a community garden, hosting a recycling drive, etc., or for more details, please visit unep.org.
