Meet the Creator of Beyond Green
Measurable Goals in the Lunchroom
You may remember from the March Elist for Educators, that Niles Township High School District 219 is implementing a 5-year sustainability and healthy food plan. The plan was designed with the assistance of Beyond Green and includes measurable goals pertaining to food, waste, energy, water, education, engagement. The plan is now part of the District's contract with its food service provider and is third-party monitored by Beyond Green. I personally visited D219's kitchens and observed cooks in action, not only preparing food from scratch but also reducing and recycling waste. Beyond Green also works with schools with internal food service staff, such as Bureau Valley School District 340. You now have the opportunity to discover how all this happened and how you can bring it to your school! Meet Greg Christian (Beyond Green), Paul O'Malley (D219), and John Bute (D340) at the Illinois Association of School Business Officials conference (IASBO). This panel will be presenting on May 16th at 2:30 pm in Ballroom 406. The session title is "Beyond Green: A Business Approach to Delivering Wholesome, Sustainable and Affordable Food". Detailed session information can be found at iasbo.org. If you are not attending, please forward this message to a school representative that may be interested. Thank you, Mary Allen Recycling and Education Director |
