Eco-Friendly Marketplace
Part of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is ReBuy. For years, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) has provided a resource to assist consumers to be more "green" called the Eco-Friendly Marketplace. The original directory provided a wide variety of products available to consumers made from recycled or sustainable materials, which have less of an impact on our environment's resources to manufacture.

As more companies "go green", there are even more choices for consumers - as well as confusion to which is the greener, better product to purchase. Additionally, research is warning us of negative health effects associated with certain chemicals, personal care products, dyes, farming methods, plastics, etc.

"It is important that people are provided with information so that they know which products are healthier for themselves and the environment when making purchasing decisions", stated Mary Allen, SWANCC Recycling and Education Director.

SWANCC's recently updated web-based reference now includes an expanded General Resources section and other areas of sustainability such as:
  • Appliances and Electronics
  • Energy Conservation
  • Home Reuse, Deconstruction and Salvage
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Natural Lawn Care
  • Travel and Transportation
  • Water Conservation
Be an educated "greener" consumer, and check out this directory at swancc.org.
