Small Changes Can Yield Big Results

Waste-Free lunch bagsSince 1992, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) has provided the Waste Reduction Grant Program to assist schools within its region to purchase items that reduce waste and increase recycling.  Items that qualify to receive funds, but are not limited to, include:
  • Reusable food containers, trays and bags
  • Reusable beverage bottles, cups or mugs
  • Recycling bins
  • Can crushers
  • Dry-erase boards
  • Composting bins - indoor and outdoor
  • Related books and media
Grant requests are being accepted from individual schools from September through October, 2011, but funds are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  In order for a school to receive funds, they must be located in one of SWANCC's member communities.

Once SWANCC approves a school's grant request, items are to be purchased and receipts submitted to SWANCC no later than February 28, 2012 for reimbursement.
