Going Back to School?
Be Sure to Purchase Eco-Friendly Supplies
As the calendar page turns to August, students of all ages will be making plans to return to school/college. This means new teachers, new classes and NEW SCHOOL SUPPLIES. Buying recycled is a component of recycling that is often overlooked. The recycling process begins as materials are collected. It continues when the materials are sorted, reprocessed and made into new products. Buying recycled-content products is essential to sustain current curbside programs and markets, and it is better for the environment because resources are conserved.
Be sure to purchase paper supplies, such as writing paper, notebooks, binders and file folders made with a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled-content - paper that has been recycled in municipal programs. Also look for tree-free pencils, non-toxic markers, & glues and refillable pens. Be sure to take your lunch in reusable containers/bags and bring your own reusable water bottle to reduce lunchroom waste! See SWANCC's website for waste-free lunch tips.

Additionally, look at local retail stores for eco-friendly products. As the saying goes, you are not truly recycling unless you buy recycled-content products!
