On February 11, 2011, Prospect High School science teacher and ecology club sponsor Mollie David coordinated three assemblies showcasing SWANCC's Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. Club members modeled over 45 outfits with accessories made from either recycled materials, like #1 PET plastic beverage bottles, or renewable sustainable plant fibers such as tencel, hemp, bamboo, corn and organically-grown cotton.
Environmental science and AP biology classes were formally invited to the show held in the school's auditorium, but all students and faculty were welcome to attend.

MacArthur School, Hoffman Estates
Worms Wiggle Their Way Into a School Day
As part of SWANCC's school Waste Grant Program, MacArthur School received a Can 'O Worms indoor composting bin. Under the direction of teacher Bernadette Marcis, students help set up the bin and add the worms - about 1,000 red wigglers.
Fruit and vegetable scraps are collected during lunchtime and fed to the worms weekly. In a few months, the worms will produce castings, a nutrient-rich soil that can be applied to school gardening projects.
