8th Annual Composting Symposium
Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL
The 8th annual composting symposium is a forum for sharing composting information, stimulating the composting market, and bringing composters, educators, and businesses together so that everyone can benefit from learning about this excellent organic soil amendment. At the symposium, participants can learn about composting organic materials from experts in the field. Topics touch on backyard, community, food waste, farm, business, and school composting.
The keynote speaker for this year's symposium is Dr. Paul Walker, a professor at Illinois State University and the head of their composting program. Dr. Walker will discuss his experiences with composting and the future of composting in the state and region.
Following the symposium program, participants are invited to attend the Build Your Own Bin workshop. Attendees will have the opportunity to build their own vermi-compost bin for the home or office. The workshop includes the take-home materials (including worms) necessary to begin composting and provides information on caring for a worm composting bin. Symposium attendance is not required to attend the BYOB workshop.
