In recognition of America Recycles Day, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) will present its fourth Trashy Fashion Show on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 7 pm. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Chicago North Shore Hotel, 5300 W. Touhy Avenue, in Skokie. This fun and inspirational program showcases outfits and accessories made from materials or items otherwise destined for the trash can.

 

"SWANCC's program gives designers of all ages a platform to create high-quality, one-of-a-kind wearable outfits, with complementary accessoires.  Each piece is a statement about being resourceful and respectful by utilizing resources a bit longer, "states Mary Allen, SWANCC's Recycling and Education Director.

 

Materials used in some of the designs include discarded textiles, pop tabs, plastic, newspaper, magazines, bicycle inner tubes, rice bags, and much more.
