Dirt! The Movie, Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow, Common Ground Media, Inc: Inspired by William Bryant Logan's acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, Dirt! The Movie takes a humorous and substantial look into the history and current state of the living organic matter that we come from and later return to. It is an insightful and timely film that tells the story of the glorious and unappreciated material beneath our feet. (80 minutes, high school to adult)
Call to Life - Facing the Mass Extinction, Video Project: This documentary investigates the growing threat posed by the rapid and massive loss of biodiversity on the planet. Featuring leading scientists, social scientists, environmentalists and others, the film explores the scope, the causes and the predicted global impact of a mass extinction occurring on a scale not seen since the disappearance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. (60 minutes, middle school to adult)
Aftermath, Population Zero, National Geographic: What would happen if every single person on Earth disappeared? A world without people, where city streets would still be populated by cars, but without drivers. Nobody to fix bridges, repair buildings, or maintain power plants. How long would skyscrapers, nuclear power plants and our homes last if abandoned? This DVD gives us a chance to see the effect of human beings by seeing how Earth would adapt without us, and how long it would take to regenerate the damage we have caused. (90 minutes, middle school to adult)
