SWANCC Trashy Fashion Show
Trashy Fashion ShowThe Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) will present its third Trashy Fashion Show on Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7:00 pm. The event will be held in recognition of America Recycles Day at The Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Avenue, in Glenview. This fun and inspirational program showcases clothing and accessories made from materials otherwise destined for the trash can.

"SWANCC's unique showcase of fashions made from items that still have life give designers an outlet to create a statement about utilizing resources a bit longer," states Mary Allen, SWANCC's Recycling and Education Director.

Materials used in some of the designs include discarded textiles, pop tabs, newspaper bags, rice bags, magazines, disposable pillow cases, bubble wrap, bicycle inner tubes and caution tape, just to mention a few!

"The message is about being more resourceful and less wasteful - just because we can throw things away doesn't mean that we should - think before you throw anything away to see if there is a reuse option," Allen suggests.

There is no cost to attend this event, but space is limited and reservations are required by emailing info@swancc.org or calling SWANCC at (847) 724-9205, extension 201.
