IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings
Judy Brizendine, author of STUNNED by Grief: Remapping Your Life When Loss Changes Everything and STUNNED by Grief Journal was interviewed recently by Flora Brown, Ph.D., on her Color Your Life Happy blogtalkradio show for a program titled "Recovering from Loss." STUNNED by Grief garnered a starred review by Library Journal, and the book was named to LJ's Best Books of 2011: Self Help. Pet Pals Publishing's Judy Archibald told us that a portion of sales at her recent at Barnes & Noble booksigning in Loveland, CO was donated to Hearts & Horses, a therapeutic horse back riding center. In 6 months, The Mutt & the Mustang has sold nearly 2000 copies, is currently in more than 50 stores (mostly in Colorado) and is in its third printing. Norm Ray of Rayve Productions is excited that their title The Perfect Orange: A Tale from Ethiopia adaptation was featured in the Feb 2012 issues of Time Magazine's "Time For Kids Magazine" (G3-4 and G5-6 editions). The Perfect Orange book was previously featured on PBS-TV's StoryTime and was a Smithsonian Institute selection for the Smithsonian's LET'S READ program. Thank you Maria Vezzetti Matson of Polenta Publishing (San Francisco) for writing a very informative article about her IBPA Publishing University experience for her local online newsletter, The Barbary Coast News. Alpine Publications, Inc. author Jeffrey Schettler has been chosen as 2012's Arthur J. Haggerty Award of Excellence recipient with his Book Entry, K-9 Trailing: The Straightest Path. Jeff is a pure breed working dog's provider, trainer, and writer and has pioneered the placement of hand selected and tested pure breed puppies in the homes of children with disabilities. Affiliate news: Dan Levant, founder of the predecessor to Book Publishers Northwest died April 9 of lung cancer at age 81. Mr. Levant was perhaps best known in Seattle literary circles as the founder of Madrona Publishers, which published a New York Times best-selling account of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Last November, Jane R. Wood and her business partner, Frances Keiser, (Get Book Savvy) were contacted by the U.S. State Department to conduct a Skype video conference with university students at Al Farabi State University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. They did so well that they have been invited to visit Kazakhstan this spring to meet with their staff and students -- all expenses paid! We've received a ton of great pictures recently.
