Nancy Shugart let us know that her title, Challenged to Win, (Prove Them Wrong, 2010) has been selected to receive the Barbara Jordan Media Award presented by the Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities. The award is presented to those who have produced material for the public which accurately and positively reports on individuals with disabilities, using People First language and respectful depictions. C. Bruce Johnson tells us that The People's Medical Publishing Company of China has bought the rights to translate and print 5,000 copies of his first book, Heart to Heart. In the book, Bruce examines the emotional and mental toll of heart attacks on 12 people. He includes his own very personal story of recovery from a massive coronary. The Starabella Children's 3-Book Audio/Picture Book Series are Award-Winning Finalists, winning five awards in three categories of the "Best Books 2010" Awards sponsored by USA BOOK NEWS. Quite a few of our members have reported to be finalists in the Foreword Book of the Year Awards including Scarletta Press for Our Jewish Robot Future: A Novel about the Garden of Eden. Check out all the finalists! The Dollar Diva, Elizabeth Fisher, stopped by the "Talk Philly" (CBS Local Media) set to offer shopping tips and talk about her new book, Dining with the Dollar Diva. She also shared her recipe for Tilapia Rollups: Watch her video! Fir Valley Press author B. K. Mayo, whose novel Tamara's Child was named a finalist in the Popular Fiction category of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Book Awards, has been added to the panel of award-winning authors listed on the website www.bookclubcafe.com. The site connects book clubs with authors. Book club members can go to the site and arrange for authors whose books they are reading or would like to read to attend their book club meeting in person or via telephone or Skype. The service is free to book clubs. IBPA affiliate, Book Publishers Northwest, Seattle, WA, invites members in the area to their next meeting, April 21, 4 pm to 7 pm. Colleen Plimpton, a seasoned garden writer (weekly column, magazine articles, chapter author, etc) says that making her video has opened doors for her with reviewers, libraries and venues for her lecturing business. Here are some fun YouTube videos for My Name is Not Isabella from Sourcebooks. The first is their cute book trailer and the second is called, Isabella, From Pencil to Print, showing the animation process. Fun! Marika Flatt, founder of PR by the Book, has been asked to join the 2011 Texas Book Festival selection committee. Her committee will be reviewing children's books ranging from board books to YA. Marika is a regular speaker at IBPA's Publishing University program. The Texas Book Festival will be held October 22-23 at the Texas State Capital. While touring for his title, Saltwater Taffy, Seven Publishing author Eric DelaBarre's schedule included 16 cities and 1000's of kids. The largest Assembly was 400 middle school kids - one mic, one author and 400 kids in one auditorium! While in Seatlle he sat down with the New Day Northwest show. Check out his great interview!
