Happy New Year! What are your publishing resolutions?

Oceanview Publishing announces that it has joined forces with Amber Entertainment for the development of feature films and other entertainment media formats from its catalog of titles. The company, which publishers original mystery/suspense/thriller titles, has published 40 titles to date.

Library Journal, has named From Zero to Mastectomy: What I Learned And You Need to Know About Stage 0 Breast Cancer, by Jackie Fox, Honyocker Press one of the Best Consumer Health Books of 2010.

Thomas R. Pero, co-founder of the Wild Salmon Center and owner of Wild River Press based in Mill Creek, Washington, has been awarded the Aldo Starker Leopold Wild Trout Medal. The medal was presented to Pero as "a non-fisheries professional who, in the eyes of his peers, has made long-time and significant contributions to the enhancement, protection and preservation of wild trout."

Lynda Barbaccia let us know that her title Simple Wisdom for the Not So Simple Business World has won 10 awards this past year, including the International book award for the Best Business/Motivational book of 2010 and the bronze medal for the Living Now Book Awards best Meditation/Relaxation category.

Dr. Barbara Mitchell, author of When You Need a Timeout presented a segment on Stress Management based on her book for the Balancing Act Lifetime TV viewers recently. Dr. Barbara showed how to include five effective stress-busting techniques, breath work, affirmations, meditation, visualization and progressive relaxation into a daily schedule. Author, Cheryl Wilfong let us know that her blog, The Meditative Gardener has won a Blogisattva Award for Best Achievement in Blogging on Buddhist Practice and the Dharma. Congratulations, Cheryl!

Carolyn CJ Jones is excited that her title, Opening the Gates of the Heart: A Journey of Healing was chosen as one of the Top 12 Fall Book Picks by www.thespiritedwoman.com.

Lauren Froehner of Impact Publishers was surprised to learn that a Justice in Canada ordered the parents of 11-year-old twins to read three books about parenting in a divorce situation and write "a one-page summary for each book of one insight that they have gained from it and one strategy, if any, they are prepared to adopt based on it," before they return to family court. One of the books assigned was their title, Parenting After Divorce: Resolving Conflicts and Meeting Your Children's Needs by Philip M. Stahl, Ph.D. Here is a link to the full article.

 

KidPub Press, publisher of books written by children, has released its 100th title. Established in 2008, the company helps kids ages 8 to 18 understand the publishing
process by giving them a chance to publish their own book.

 

Tree Tunnel Press title, Wynadno's Cloak, has won its forth award with the Gold-Medal for Preteen Fiction in the 2010 Readers Favorite Awards.  

 

The Soho Center is a 38-year-old non-profit which promotes children's literacy. They give away thousands of quality children's books to Head Start programs, Boys & Girls Clubs, child care providers, free clinics, and kindergarten classes. In fact, when you Google "children's literacy," their National Children's Literacy site comes up #1. They maintain a unique Resource Library of over 16,000 children's books (primarily for toddlers, pre-schoolers, and elementary school-aged children).
