We had a great time representing your titles and meeting so many of you. If you have any fun BEA pics, please pass them along! We're off to the ALA in DC next week. Phew!

If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf.

And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime.

If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you!
IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings

To celebrate World Sea Turtle Day, and to benefit sea turtle protection in northeast Florida, Frank Gromling, (Ocean Publishing) held an impromptu Sea Turtle Party at its retail store and offices on June 16th. "Trop Rock" music set the festive mood for the all-day blast to promote sea turtle awareness in Flagler Beach. Free turtle information was handed out and sales of T-shirts, art, and Ocean's newest title Tracks in the Sand: Sea Turtles and Their Protectors generated over $200 for sea turtle protection.

(C&T Publishing) announced the Design Collective, an exciting new series of craft sewing books within the Stash Books imprint that showcases select groups of fresh, contemporary designers. C&T scouted for most of the featured designers on Etsy.com. According to Etsy.com, more than 200,000 artisans sell over $50 million in handmade goods annually.

The launch of Dear Baby, It's a Colorful World, was the first author event at the launch of Boulevard Books and Cafe, a new bookstore in Brooklyn which opened the week of Book Expo.  It's the third book in the Dear Baby series (Dear Baby Books) by Carol Casey.

Rethinking Schools' book Rethinking Multicultural Education: Teaching for Racial and Cultural Justice, recently won a 2010 Skipping Stones Honor Award as one of the finest "teaching resources that promote multicultural awareness and nature appreciation." This marks two years in a row a Rethinking School book has won an award from Skipping Stones magazine. Rethinking Early Childhood Education (Rethinking Schools) won a 2009 Skipping Stones Honor Award in the same category.

We hope you had a chance to see our recent 3-part series on "Metadata" which ran in the IBPA Independent. It's been very well received by our colleagues in the industry. As a matter of fact, the Book Industry Study Group and BookNet Canada have both asked to link the article to their websites. "This is a great series -- it's very readable and as far as I can tell a complete overview of something that like taxes or balancing cheque books defies reasonable description. My compliments to Linda Carlson for her writing skills and to Judith (Appelbaum) and the IBPA for publishing it.  I will definitely include it in our resources." - Tom Richardson, BookNet Canada. You can see the complete article series here!

(Schlesinger Books) has announced that Replacement Child - A Memoir by Connecticut author Judy L. Mandel, has won a 2010 finalist award from National Indie Excellence Awards in the Memoir category.

(Behrman House Publishing) has a job opening for a Business Manager. To learn more about the Job, "in a professional yet informal environment in cheerful space in Springfield, NJ", check here!

(Merit Publishing International) announced that their title, Angel of the Assassination has won the NABE Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Spring 2010 in the category of Historical Fiction. Also, Merit's title, Yoga for Movement Disorders has earned Health Category award status for the 2010 Eric Hoffer Award.

(Journeyworks Publishing), a leading national publisher of health promotion materials, is looking for a Sales Director. Their 600+pamphlets, posters and booklets are purchased by public health departments, schools and universities, hospitals, medical clinics, and social service agencies. More information here!

(Fir Valley Press') novel Tamara's Child was chosen as a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award Winner for Spring 2010 and was also recently named a Finalist in the Popular Fiction category of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards.

After seeing IBPA member Nancy Rekow's title, Minnie Rose Lovgreen's Recipe for Raising Chickens, fellow member Cynthia Brian contacted her to do a radio interview about the book on the world's largest radio network, World Talk/Voice America on her show, Starstyle-Be the Star You Are!. Cynthia also happens to raise chickens as well. Archives can be found at http://www.StarstyleRadio.com.

If you didn't catch the hugely informative E-MAGINATION: What's Now and What's Next in Ebooks Broadcast LIVE to the world from Publishing University last month, don't worry, we recorded it. Rave reviews are still coming in. Check it out here -- we think you'll agree!

IBPA member Jerry Craft scored a great interview with Connecticut Style, News 8, wtnh.com, discussing his title Mama's Boyz as a great way to get kids and young adults to read. Mama's Boyz is a positive depiction of African-American life and a syndicated cartoon to more than 1,500 newspapers around the world. Watch his interview here!

There were so many panels and discussions at BEA, but if you weren't there or didn't have time to see any of them - what to do? Luckily they were recorded and are available now as FREE podcasts here! Check out the "Adult Author Breakfast" featuring Condoleezza Rice, John Grisham, Mary Roach and Jon Stewart!
