A Message from Mohamed "Mike" Ahmar President
Dear Friends, Earlier this year, the House of Lebanon partnered with the Lebanese American Medical Association and International College of Beirut in a joint fundraiser to raise money to ship hospital beds to Lebanon. We learned that partnering with other organizations can be a great success. A few months later, we partnered with six local and national Lebanese organizations for our annual picnic. We enjoyed meeting the family and friends of our partner organizations, and once again, saw that joining together as a community, was successful and fun. As we prepare for our upcoming Pride of Heritage banquet, we hope our new partners and friends will join us as we not only honor my dear friend, Ghassan Saab, but we come together for an evening of entertainment, fun and elegance. Twelve Angry Lebanese
A Docu-Feature - 78 minutes
Directed by Zeina Daccache
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDvCifo3NE4
A theatre director, specializing in working with disadvantaged and traumatized people, Zeina Daccache struggled to set up Lebanon's first prison-based drama project in the country's notorious Roumieh Prison. For 15 months, 45 adult male inmates, some completely illiterate, found themselves working together to present an adaptation of the famous stage play '12 Angry Men', here re-named '12 Angry Lebanese'. Through their new-found creative outlet, we witness the prisoners coalesce into a slick, professional ensemble.
The drama therapy sessions, the interviews with the inmates, the moments of crisis, the moments of joy, and the interaction with both Daccache and the external audience, convey an extraordinary message of hope, forgiveness and change. In the course of their artistic journey, these "murderers, drug dealers and rapists" reveal kindness and faith in life. Inspiring and honest, this account of the prisoners' journey demonstrates the efficacy of drama therapy and its positive effects on some of the most ostracized individuals in society.

Sponsored by Arab Film Festival Falafel Feature Film | Lebanon/France | 83 minutes Film written and directed by Michel Kammoun http://www.arabfilmfestival.org/film_detail.php?id=193 Reminiscent of a Lebanese After Hours, Michel Kammoun's first feature film successfully depicts the story of Tou (Elie Mitri), a hip and charming Beirut university student whose attempts to enjoy a night out on the town are repeatedly sabotaged by residuals of a war that ended 16 years earlier. On a warm summer night just made for fun, Tou's only objectives are to torment his beloved younger brother, eat the most delicious falafel, and meet up at a party with Yasmin, the object of his affections. Seemingly on track, the night goes awry when he is humiliated by a driver intent on picking a fight. Angered by the incident, Tou leaves his comedic group of friends to search for this aggressor. As Tou travels through the nocturnal streets of Beirut, the city's underlying aura of uncertainty and potential violence is revealed. On first impression, Falafel is a stylish young party movie filled with comedy and sexual chemistry, yet just below the surface it possesses a subtle analysis of the ways in which the Lebanese war still lingers in the lives of those barely old enough to remember it. Tripoli Quit Rania Attieh, Daniel Garcia Short Film | Lebanon, USA | 15 minutes http://www.arabfilmfestival.org/film_detail.php?id=968 Only a few hours into his shift, a cab driver in Tripoli, Lebanon finds a lone boy sitting in the backseat of his car. The boy's peculiar silence forces the cabbie to deal with his most unique passenger yet.

Los Angeles Beirut Sister Cities Committee www.labeirut.org
The Los Angeles Beirut Sister City Committee was established to create a bridge of understanding and friendship between the residents of these two great cities, and to foster cultural, social, and business exchanges.
Sisterly ties were officially established on August 27, 2005. Los Angeles Council Member Dennis Zine and Council President Eric Garcetti made the motion to start the process of making L.A. and Beirut Sister Cities. L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also signed the motion. Representing Beirut was Abdulmonem Al-Aris; the Mayor of Beirut, and VP of the Beirut City Council, Tawfic Kfoury.
The Los Angeles-Beirut Sister City Committee is a non-sectarian, non-political organization allowing all who wish to foster goodwill between the two cities to contribute to that goal.
