| Dear Friends of the House of Lebanon,
It seems that our Board Chairman, President and I all seem to think alike, because however different or similarly we say it....summer has arrived! At a recent dinner, everyone was eagerly sharing their travel plans for this summer. Many people were traveling to Lebanon, but other countries and destinations in the United States were mentioned. Wherever this summer takes you, we hope you come back refreshed to join the House of Lebanon for our Beyond Borders Art Exhibition in October and the Pride of Heritage Banquet in November.
Safe travels to all!
Best Wishes from Our House to Yours,
Karen Srour

HOL Artists' Spotlight Maece Seirafi Maece Seirafi was born in San Francisco, California but was raised in Damascus, Syria, where most of her love of letterforms, art, poetry and calligraphy was cultivated. In 2005 she graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles with a BFA in Communication Arts. Arabic calligraphy and Latin letterforms remained a strong, central theme throughout her work at Otis. After an extensive Type Design class with the renown type designer Leah Hoffmitz, bilingual identities in typography led her to pursue and complete an MFA at the Graphic Design program at the California Institute of the Arts in 2010. She studied under several talented design visionaries such as Louise Sandhaus, Lorraine Wild, Ed Fella, Michael Worthington, and Jefferey Keedy. Seirafi continues to explore the nuances of Arabic and Latin typography, and how bilingual identities could be further developed typographically. She is an independent graphic designer heavily involved in several local Arab American projects as well as multicultural organizations. She has worked in several design studios in Los Angeles such as Radarworks, Global Women Project, Marc Lumer Design, etc. She currently resides in Los Angeles and is interested in teaching young designers all about the creative field. I was fascinated by their close attachment to their roots and their passionate drive to involve the American community in their activities and exhibits. Which creates a great cultural bridge between the East and West." HOL Artist News | NOW
HOL Artist Doris Bittar writes...............
Dear Friends and Family,
I will be participating in a group exhibit in Berlin this summer that then travels to Stuttgart for the months of September-December. "Political Patterns" is curated by Sabine Vogel and features an international group of artists, among them Philip Taaffe and
Zena El Khalil - details are below. It opens on July 7, and closes August 8, 2011 at the IFA Gallery (Institute for Foreign and Cultural Exchange). I will be showing the piece "Tarab Soundings" featuring the dulcimoon (thanks to Palestinian and Lebanese individuals, as well as the California Center for the Arts in San Diego for helping to fund its construction). Microtonal musician, Jonathan Glasier is joining me and will perform on the instrument. Two new paintings that feature Islamic patterns layered over the American flag will be shown, along with two new map/collages titled "Secured States" made from security envelope patterns. Warmest regards, Doris
