House of Lebanon Director Profile
Ferris Wehbe
Ferris Wehbe is a longtime Hollywood
resident, business owner, and activist.
Since 1983, he and his wife Debbie have operated F&D Properties
which develops and manages real estate around the globe. He's the owner of The Hollywood Corner restaurant,
and his family founded and owns the acclaimed Hollywood
Schoolhouse. Ferris is dedicated to addressing issues affecting Hollywood. He is currently an advisor for the Central Hollywood Neighborhood
Council. He's a founding
member of the Media Business Improvement District, and the Hollywood
Beautification Team was conceived in his living room. In 1988, Ferris co-founded the Hollywood Sentinels
Neighborhood Watch program to address crime in the neighborhood. For over 6 years, Ferris led local residents
on a nightly patrol of the area. The LAPD attributes many of Ferris' efforts to
a 60% reduction in youth-related local crime. Furthermore, Ferris raised over
$200,000 to replace outdated LAPD computers, gear for the LAPD Bike Patrol, and
other vital equipment needed to protect the neighborhood. Ferris served as President of Hollywood VOTE, a
group formed to explore the feasibility of forming an independent City of Hollywood. Hollywood VOTE
collected 38,000 signatures to put the issue to the voters on the 2002 ballot. Ferris has spearheaded several programs for children.
As a founding member of the Board of Governors of the Hollywood Youth
Charities, Ferris was instrumental in raising over $300,000. He launched the Hollywood
Youth Collaborative which provides services and after-school activities. When
he was president of the Hollywood Police Activities League, Ferris expanded
enrollment in the program from 25 to 1,300 children with four full-time
officers in six community locations. Ferris also served on the Board of
Trustees of the Pacific Hills School. When Ferris served as the Senior Assistant Governor
for special projects for Rotary District 5280, he was involved in chartering 3
new clubs: Historic Filipinotown Rotary
Club, Thai Town Rotary Club, and The Los Angeles Cedars Rotary Club. He's also the
Chairman, former President, and a founding member of the Los Angeles Beirut Sister City
organization. Ferris and Debbie reside in Hollywood where they have raised their four
children: Ethan, Eric, Laila, and Nadia.

House of Lebanon Artists' Group Spotlight
Koko
Born in Lebanon of Armenian
descent in 1960, Koko received his artistic talent from his parents. His mother, a pianist and graphic artist, and
his father, a violinist and industrialist helped him develop his love and passion
for drawing at age three. Since that first
day, when he could hold his own artists' pencil, he has developed into an
accomplished artist. Through his early school
years he was always busy (maybe too busy) drawing those things that held his
interest, such as animals, religious scenes and portraits. He often entertained
his family and friends with his caricatures, comics and more serious portraits.
He received his formal instruction of interior design at the age of 20 in
Lebanon and then launched his professional career in 1982. He worked at the
mirror etching company "Seven Stars" in Lebanon, where he learned the
fundamentals and techniques of decorative artistry.
Koko with a 3-D mural | Koko creates beautiful murals and applies original faux finishes and
sophisticated surface finishing to create an infinite number interior
decorating designs. Murals and faux finishes can be applied to walls, ceilings,
and staircases...anywhere imaginable.
Ambitious for challenges, he looks forward to projects of different styles,
mediums and shapes and never duplicates same project. Koko says he is "always truthful and honest with
a large sense of humor." Koko continues,
"once I get to know you, you become a friend and no more a client." In addition, any decorative question or
opinion you have, he always gives it for free, any estimate for a project or an
idea it always free. To view the quality
of works he has done in the recent past, you can visit his web site at

House of Lebanon and HOLYP Annual Volleyball Tournament
Location: University of California at Irvine, Aldridge Park Time: 12 NOON - 6 PM Join the House of Lebanon Young Professionals in the annual Team Volleyball Challenge. 2009 Volleyball Tournament | A Day At The Getty by Giorgio
Sassine
Perfection;
Plato philosophized that perfection can be found in the heavens. And, by "heaven," he of course meant the City
of Angels. Heaven, City of Angels - same
thing. Right? Well OK, it is quite a stretch. But, in the case of the Getty Museum
perfection is spot on, and maybe for a second you could close your eyes, reopen
them, and believe you were in heaven. The off-white travertine that runs up and off into the light blue sky,
the purple dashes of color that flower the building's canvas, and the balconies
that allow our thoughts to escape towards wave crested hills were all mingled
into one architect's thoughts of what heaven might be like. And for one day a group of inspired young
Lebanese traveled up a twisty tram ride and stepped foot into this architect's
dream. On March
20th, the beginning of Spring, The House of Lebanon Young
Professionals Society, joined with The Lebanese American Foundation Artist's
Group and The Armenian Professionals Society forgot about their worries of L.A.
traffic and long work days and spent a sunny Saturday afternoon exploring the
Getty Museum. The day began with
everyone mingling at the top steps of the Getty. People hugged, kissed cheek to cheek, and
shook each others' hands. There were old
faces and new but everyone was welcomed much the same. After everyone got their honed Lebanese
social skills out of the way, we all met up with our tour guide, who
enlightened us on the architectural inspirations of Richard Meier, the
architect of the Getty Museum. The tour
lasted a little over an hour, with each minute dedicated to some very
informational tidbits on J. Paul Getty himself, the trust that was created on
his behalf, and the ensuing museum that was a culmination of all its
efforts. After the tour the group split
up into smaller groups (unintended but nevertheless fun) and wandered through
the rest of the Getty. After seeing the
different exhibits some of the group met back up to have a nice lunch and to
discuss Lebanese culture, art, nightlife and politics. It was a great time and, like many others who
were there that day, I hope that HOLYP continues to bring us all together for
many more great events. (L-R) Fatima Saleh, Rola Eldanaf, Nancy Salem, Mohammed Saleh at the Getty

"We want to make a clarification regarding a story that was
included in the House of Lebanon. April 2010 E-Newsletter. The Nov. 21, 2009 event, which involved feeding residents at the
PATH facility in Hollywood, was a collaborative effort by members of the House
of Lebanon, Young Professionals, L.A. Cedars Rotary Club, Network of
Arab-American Professionals, Los Angeles (NAAP-LA) and the Lebanese Collegiate
Network (LCN). In the article, we credited the Lebanese Rotaract, instead of
the L.A. Cedars Rotary Club. We thank all those who contributed to making the event a success
and apologize for the error."
