Marathon Beirut
Dear Friends,
Happy spring! Some
of you have been asking about the status of "Marathon Beirut" and at
long last I have an update.
Just a few days
ago "Marathon Beirut" was finally listed on Netflix. However, that
does not mean that is actually
available. Before they order a film and stock it they need to see a
demonstrated interest in the form of members saving it to their queue. So, if you or any and all
of your friends have a Netflix account, please search "Marathon Beirut"
and save it to your queues. The more saves,
the sooner Netflix will stock it. And by the way, it is now available for purchase on Amazon. Thank you all for your
support!
Cheers,
Deborah Harse

A Message from The Honorable James Kaddo Chairman of the Board of Directors
"I know that it has been a long and dedicated
effort to make this dream a reality. We are not there yet but your
continued support and enthusiasm we will get there. You are needed more
than ever. We are close to accomplishing what all of us ten years ago set
out to do. I know that all of you feel as I do--failure is not an
option. Thanks for your continued support."

House of Lebanon Director Profile
John Koudsi CEO, S & J Industries
Even though I am originally from the Chouf area, I lived most of my
young life in Beirut Lebanon. I had my primary education at the College
des Freres in Beirut. After graduation from high school, I joined
first the St. Joseph University studying for a year Conventional Law
and later the AUB for business. During my 2nd year, I decided to
transfer to the University of Hamburg Germany where I spent 6 years
obtaining the equivalent of a BS and later an MBA.
In 1969 I came to Los Angeles, Ca and in 1970 I married my present
wife Kathy and we were blessed with 2 beautiful children, Suzy and
Johnny. Suzy graduated from Columbia University with a degree in
Journalism and Johnny just finished his doctorate work specializing
in Clinical Psychology.
I founded an import company specializing in German auto parts
representing some of the largest German manufacturers of auto parts. In
1981 I sold my business to a large supplier. In 1984 I started
"S&J Industries Inc. to import and export German auto parts mainly
to the US and Asia. S&J got it's name from the 2 initials of my
kids and is still active under the supervision and management of my
daughter.
I served as the Chairman of the Board of the St Nicholas Cathedral
in the early 90's, and I am still serving on the Board of several
buying Associations in the automotive field Nation wide. I enjoy
serving on the Board of the LAF and look forward to accomplishing our
goal shortly.

House of Lebanon Artists' Group Spotlight
Zareh
Zareh
began to draw at a very young age. Born in Aleppo, Syria, in 1956, he moved with his family to Lebanon in 1963. During the Lebanese Civil War of the 1970s, Zareh studied fine art at Al
Kaslik University.
The atrocities of the war, followed by the breakdown of tolerance and civility
between quarreling communities, had a profound effect on the sensitive young
artist. What he witnessed in those years would start to define the core
concerns and attributes of his art, expressed at turns through sorrow,
apprehension, and explosive outrage at manifestations of social and political
injustice.
After moving to the United States in 1983, Zareh dedicated himself to drawing,
painting, and performance pieces, with much of his output designed to raise
public awareness of universal issues such as environmental degradation,
globalism and its dire consequences for disenfranchised societies, and
human-rights violations including genocide.Anna |
Many of Zareh's critically acclaimed exhibitions, such as "The Red Trees of the
Armenian Genocide" and "Marry the Priest," have been featured in the U.S.
media, including the Los Angeles Times, La Opinion, KTLA, and
others.
Zareh was
introduced to HOL artists' group by artist Carole Choucair Oueijan. "
I feel honored to be a member of HOL artist group, I find
it very beneficial, and
it is an enriching experience." he says. Zareh
lives and works in Glendale, he loves sports and is not married.

Lebanese Community Members Offer Helping Hand To Those In
Need
They say that time is a precious commodity. But, I contend
that changing someone's life is priceless and time that is well spent. It
took less than 240 minutes to offer compassion and a warm meal and to bring joy
to more than 70 residents at a local Los Angeles shelter.
On Nov. 21, the members of the House of Lebanon Young
Professionals in collaboration with the Lebanese Rotaract, the Network of Arab
American Professionals, Los Angeles (NAAP-LA) and the Lebanese Collegiate
Network (LCN), had the opportunity to walk in the shoes of those less fortunate
at the PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) facility in Hollywood.
Being able to offer support to those in need remains one of
the greatest holiday memories for those who attended the event.
Giorgio Sassine, a member of HOL-YP, was not only touched by the experience,
but also humbled. "We all need to help each other. We all need to
understand what it could be like to be in someone else's shoes," said
Sassine.
Rotaract Founders Ferris Wehbe and his wife Debbie
generously donated food, beverages and dessert to feed the occupants at the
facility. The day's events culminated with a raffle, where PATH residents
were given the opportunity to win a variety of prizes - including soap sets and
bags.
From cutting slices of pumpkin pie to assembling sandwiches and washing dishes,
the day was a tribute not only to the priceless gifts that can be given when
those dedicate a few hours of their time, but to the fact that even the
smallest gestures reap the biggest rewards.
"I left the building aware of how great it is, and can be, to help another
in need," said Sassine.
