Dinner Honoring LAF Founding Board Member Jack Chammas
The Lebanese American Foundation is proud to honor Mr. Jack Chammas at a dinner on Friday, October 2nd. Mr. Chammas' contributions to LAF are many. He was the organization's founding secretary and legal advisor, and he originated the bylaws, guiding LAF into becoming a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Please join us in recognizing Jack Chammas for his unselfish devotion and contributions to the House of Lebanon.

We have very exciting news this month, as we prepare for our Pride of Heritage Banquet, honoring Mr. Vatche Manoukian. This year, America's Top Comedian, Mr. Jay Leno will take the stage of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel to entertain the audience. We hope you join us on Sunday, October 18th for this event.

Pride of Heritage Banquet Honoring Vatche Manoukian
The House of Lebanon Ray R. Irani Pride of Heritage Award will be given to Mr. Vatche Manoukian on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The banquet committee, chaired by Rachid Eletel has been working to coordinate all aspects the banquet. Also participating on the committee are Banquet Co-Chairmen Dalida Keuroghlian, GG Ghazarossian and Anise Garabet.
Each year, tribute is paid to the honoree and this year's tribute book, coordinated by Dalida Keuroghlian is accepting tribute ads. Dalida Keuroghlian
Dalida Keuroghlian was born in Beirut,
Lebanon.
She attended and graduated from Tarouhi Hagopian. In 1974, Dalida married Mike and had three
sons; Harout, who is now 34, graduated from USC with a major in structural
engineering, Apel, 28 also graduated from USC and is now a resident in the
maxilla facial surgery department of UCLA, and Armand, 19, who is attending UCI
majoring in pre-med wanting to follow in Apel's footsteps.
Along with her husband, Mike, Dalida
runs a successful construction and development company specializing in custom
single family and commercial projects.
Although the construction company takes most of her time, Dalida still
has found time to help her community. A
few years ago, realizing that Armenians don't have a bone marrow database,
Dalida chaired and helped start the Armenian Donor registry along with First
Lady of Armenia, Mrs. Bella Kocharian.
She also headed a number of campaigns for former Mayor or Glendale, Mr.
Raffi Manoukian and 29th district congressman, Adam Schiff. In addition, Dalida organized a silent
fundraiser for former First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Nayla Mouawad, and the RMF
Foundation.
Currently, Dalida is working with 43rd
district assembly member, Paul Krikorian , for the upcoming Los Angeles city
council elections while going to college majoring in Psychology.
Dalida wants to thank the House of
Lebanon for their hard work and dedication to her country. She commends all of our efforts and is proud
to be one of the directors. She is looking
forward to working with individuals of many different talents and
aspirations. Her main goal is to work
together as a team and set an example to her people. "May the success of years past lead to

Anis Garabet
Anis Garabet, the son of Leon and Margaret Garabet, was born
in Beirut, Lebanon before his family moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1972. They moved again to settle in Los Angeles,
California in 1979.
Anis earned a Civil Engineering B.S. degree from New Jersey
Institute of Technology, in 1978 and terminated the graduate program towards
the Master's Degree in Seismology from the University of Southern California in
1980. He also earned the Professional Engineering license from the State of
California in 1982. He joined the staff of
NASA's space shuttle program working for Rockwell International in 1979 and
received an award from Columbia's first mission astronauts, John Young and Robert
Crippen, for successfully testing the Thermal Protection System for the space
shuttle.
In January, 1973, he joined The World Lebanese Cultural
Union [WLCU] in New York City.
In 2002, he served for two years as a member of the Board of
Directors at The Lebanese American Foundation, House of Lebanon in Los Angeles.
In May, 2005 he was elected in Sydney, Australia as the World President of the
World Lebanese Cultural Union, the sole Lebanese official representative of the
Lebanese Diaspora. He successfully applied for the WLCU to become an NGO at the
United Nations. He received numerous awards from WLCU affiliated institutions
in the United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Great Britain,
Australia and South Africa. In November,
2007 he joined the Board of the Lebanese American Renaissance Foundation ,
LARP, based in Washington, DC.
In 1983, Anis Garabet married Leila Tohme who is originally
from Rachaya Elwadi, Lebanon. They have
three beautiful children, two daughters, Margaret and Pauline and a son,
Jonathan.
Coming from a family of jewelers, Anis founded Golden
Pacific Jewelry in 1984 after earning a degree in gemology from the Gemological
Institute of America, GIA. He also loves to design jewelry. He speaks five languages, loves to write
Lebanese poetry, and he is a pianist who is very much influenced by Feyruz and
the Rahbani brothers.

Lamia Maalouf
Interior Architect
Lebanese born
Interior Architect, Lamia Maalouf, is co-owner of MI
Design (www.midesigncorp.com) and
a former board member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Los
Angeles Chapter.
As a
professional interior architect Maalouf specializes in design as well as
construction management of commercial, hospitality and residential
properties. Early in her career, the designer
owned a woodshop in her native country designing her own furniture customized
to the needs of her demanding clients.
Her projects were featured at the Salone Internationale del Mobile - Milan, Italy
and at NeoCon West - Los Angeles,
California.
Maalouf's
mission is to provide the highest level of design to each and every client
while adhering strictly to the client's aesthetic and budgetary goals. She continuously maintains and delivers quality
performance and innovative techniques in interior architecture of high-end
residential and commercial projects.
Completed projects are spread throughout the United States, France,
Africa, UAE and the Middle East.
MI Design has
developed an extensive list of prominent clients and their projects throughout California have been
featured widely in various publications including design periodicals and
professional trade magazines.
Maalouf holds membership in the National Association of Women Business
Owners, Los Angeles (NAWBO), the International Interior Design
Association (IIDA), the Hospitality Industry Network (NEWH) and served on the
legislative committee of the Interior Design Coalition of California (IDCC).
Maalouf is on
the advisory board of the Los Angeles Arab Film Festival. She is also a mentor and an active member of
the Los Angeles Leggers running club and was
named among the top five hundred women in her age group who finished the Los Angeles marathon in
2004.
Maalouf
strongly believes that her work offers a unique opportunity to aid in
preserving the environment. The designer works to educate her clients about
sustainable design materials, techniques and products that protect human health
and the environment and to encourage their use. | |

 After a successful visit to the Getty last year, the House of Lebanon Young Professionals and Artists' Group are again planning a joint trip, hiking in the local mountains. The outing is planned for Saturday, October 3rd at 9:00 am.
