House of Lebanon Director Profile
Jack Chammas
Jack Chammas is a California attorney since 1996. Born in
Achrafieh, Lebanon, Jack came to the United States at the age of 16. He
received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from University of
Southern California, and then his Juris Doctor from Western State University.
He started his own law practice in 1997 and gained his experience representing
clients in many aspects of the law including business law, business litigation,
criminal law, bankruptcy, immigration, and torts.
After two years into his private practice, Jack joined a
California Corporation (FCTI) as its in-house general counsel. What started out
as a small business venture eventually became the experience of his lifetime. Within
ten years of working with FCTI, the company grew exponentially to a
multi-million dollar institution operating in over 42 States.
Jack currently resides in Glendale, California where he also
maintains his private law practice. Recently, Jack was involved in complex
commercial litigation and commercial breach of contract cases. He has
represented clients in federal and state courts. He is particularly skilled at
simplifying complex matters for presentation to courts and juries. He prides
himself on offering efficient and quality service and strongly believes that
building a law practice is not about billable hours but about client trust. His
life motto: "You can only enjoy success
once you really experience failure. Success, therefore, is to be able to fall
down and stand up and walk again."
Jack has actively served several non-profit organizations and
has received multiple commendations for his dedication and work to the
community. He is also proud to be one of the original founders of the Lebanese
American Foundation, Inc. (LAF). He has served on LAF's board since its
inception and has also served as an officer for the LAF for many years. His
dream, like all members of the LAF, is to see the House of Lebanon project in
full gear very soon. His love for Lebanon and his respect for his fellow
Lebanese Americans has been the thriving force in keeping him steadfast as a
devoted servant of the LAF for so many years.
Through the LAF, Jack cherishes the friendship and strong
ties he has built with his fellow Lebanese Americans living in California. He
enjoys and looks forward to the dinners, the-get-togethers, the banquets, and
other functions. He is an avid swimmer, loves Arabic music and enjoys a good
Cuban cigar, only on occasions. (And almost every day, he has an occasion).

Hamzieh and graduated in 1983 from Chouifat High School. Upon graduation, Emad set his eyes towards
California in pursuit of a college education.
Emad's undergraduate years were spent at the University of
La Verne through 1986 and went on to graduate studies at the University of Southern
California Dental School in 1991. During
his post-graduate years, Emad dedicated his time to studying periodontics (gum
and implant specialist) and received an additional degree in 1994.
Prior to establishing a successful full time private
practice in Glendora, Emad spent four years teaching as an associate clinical
professor at USC. Throughout his career
in the dental field he has also been lecturing nationally and internationally
on implants and periodontal diseases.
Emad has remained active within his community for many
years. He was elected president of the
San Gabriel Valley Dental Society in 2007 as well as president of the Arab
American Dental Association in 1999 and 2006.

his work in underserved communities, Emad was given the Pierre Fauchard Dentist
of the Year Award for leadership and community service in 2009.
While not working professionally in the community or in
lecture halls, Emad enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer,
tennis, and travelling. Emad married his
wife Nisreen El Turk in 2002, who is a graduate of St. Joseph University with a

HOL Artists' Group Spotlight

Dina Khouri
Photographer & Mixed Media Fine Artist
Dina shares this story of her love of photography and art with our House of Lebanon readers...
My interest in photography and art began with my fascination
of an x-ray. I was six years old when a minor injury required x-rays. Seeing
that image stirred a life long fascination for photography and fine arts.
I owned and managed two photo labs for over a decade. I photographed families,
weddings, events, head shots, and maternity fine art portraitures. At the dawn
of the digital age I sold my photo labs.
Since 1995, I worked in the film and TV industry as a still photographer. It
gives me the opportunity to work on wonderful projects, in exotic locations
with great people. I have used these opportunities to capture slices of life
throughout the world.
I now divide my time between images caught on camera and recreating those
images in mixed media fine art. My work
has been very well received and has stirred positive emotions in the people
that have seen and purchased my work. In
my spare time I enjoy swimming miles in a master's swim club, and walking my
beloved dog Jake.
At an LLCS function I had the good fortune to meet Dzovig
Seferian, who pointed me in the right direction to Carole Choucair Oueijan. Thanks
to Carole, I had the opportunity to display my work at the Pride of Heritage
2007 Event.
I look forward to future events where the sale of my work
will contribute to the charitable works of HOL.

HOL Artists' Chairman Awarded Mosaic Art Commission

We're always happy to hear good news about the HOL Artists' Group members and this information was recently announced in the June 10th edition of Mosaic Art Now.
Our congratulations goes to Carole Choucair Ouejian, who was recently awarded a $40,000 commission to create a 7x10 foot mosaic mural that will grace the exterior of the City of Temecula's new $73 million Civic Center.
Economic times being what they are, the specifics of the new Civic Center are
still a little up in the air. Carole's mosaic, however, is a sure thing.
Carole says, "The project's title is 'The Emigrant Trail'. It is about the
history of Temecula and the significance of the Emigrant Trail in the City's
growth from 1847 to 1858."
Carole plans to use smalti, gold smalti, iridescent tile, marble and granite
taken from Temecula's historic quarry in the mosaic -- a brilliant idea.
"The design will be a big 3D frame. You will see dark colors of red,
burgundy and brown mixed with gold (a reminder of the California Gold Rush).
The interior portion will look like a painting of the Emigrants. The City was
looking for art that was forever and touchable. Mosaic was clearly the
answer."
The artist changed her first design after a meeting with the Temecula History
Museum director. The final design was corrected 3 times to meet the exact
details of that particular time. She estimates that it will take her 16 months
to complete the mural.
Carole sent us pictures of her latest work, a 4x6 foot piece destined for a
home in Greece. It took Carole 10 months to complete "Layaleena", an
Arabic/Lebanese word for "Splendor Nights". It is splendid, indeed --
a wonderful melding of her ethnic heritage, painterly eye, and love of the sumptuous. Layaleena
