Don't Miss the Ministry Fair!

St. James will be in full swing beginning September 23. All ministries at St. James are asked to make a presentation during the 11:00 AM Eucharist and to remain afterwards outside at the tables to solicit new members or to pass out publicity. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. Please join us! 


 

Acolyte Revolution!

Acolyte Training
 
Training for acolytes will be offered to older children, teens, and adults during Sunday School beginning September 23. The new Guild of Acolytes will be inter-generational for those who desire to serve at the Altar on Sundays. Please contact the Church Office if interested.
 
Children's Lending Library Will Reopen in October - New Hours

Sundays 10:00-10:45 and 12:15-13:00

The library has a vast selection of books for children of all ages, from pre-reader through teenager. The Library has many activities during the year, including the annual Halloween, Christmas, and Easter parties, and bilingual book readings.

The Quirky Quilters quilting group will resume their meetings in September. The group meets on Fridays at 10:00 AM in the Meeting Room. Newcomers are very welcome.

The purpose of the retreat is: to reflect on the ways women seek to deepen their spiritual lives and to explore how the Daughters of the King support one another and their congregations through faithful prayer and service.

Monthly Food Drive

On the first Sunday of every month, the St. James Foodbank is holding a food drive. Please support this important ministry by donating any of the following items: canned tomatoes, canned beans, 1 liter packages of long shelf life milk, 500 gram packages of pasta, 1 kilo packages of rice, 80 gram and 160 gram cans of tuna, coffee, crackers, small boxes of juice, merendine.  

 

The shopping cart will be at the back of the Church, waiting to be filled!

St. James' Town House is a three story apartment with its own entrance on via Bernardo Rucellai, next to the church rectory and part of the parish complex. It is a spacious 3-bedroom, 3-bath apartment, furnished with antiques, including a beautiful 1826 John Broadwood fortepiano, and overlooking the church and the rectory garden. It is fully equipped with linens for both bed and bath, along with kitchen supplies. There is satellite television that includes many English language programs, a washing machine, microwave oven, and iron. The bedrooms and living room are air conditioned. Off- street parking within the grounds of the church for one car.

The young pianist and composer Goffredo Orlandi gives us an evening of Romantic music, including pieces by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), Robert Schuman (1810-1856) and Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), as well as the first-ever public performance of a new work by Michele Padovano, Piccolo preludio. (In the picture, the archetypal German Romantic poet and thinker, Novalis.)

American Universities in Florence Open Days

Tours of the University Campuses
 

The American universities in Florence will open their doors to residents for free guided visits of their campuses (normally closed to the public) during OPEN DAYS on Monday, September 24 and Tuesday, September 25.

 

A free shuttle bus service departing and returning to Via Vecchietti will take visitors to the New York University campus, Villa La Pietra, to Georgetown University, in Fiesole, and to Harding University, in Scandicci, on Monday, Sept. 24 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Reservations are required: Tel. 055 768622 or email betta.santanni@gmail.com by Saturday, Sept. 22 at 12 noon).

 

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, there will be free, guided morning tours (10:15, 11:15 and 12:15) at Syracuse University (Piazza Savonarola 15), California State University (Via Leopardi 12), and Fairfield University (Corso Tintori 7). Afternoon guided tours (2:15, 3:15 and 4:15 PM) will take place at Bowling Green University, Via Sant'Antonino 11, Richmond College, Via Maggio 11; Kent State University, Vicolo dei Cerchi 1; and the University of New Haven (CEA), Piazza Repubblica 6. No reservation is necessary.

 

The first 25 who reserve a visit to the American university campuses on September 24 will also have the opportunity to attend either the Sept. 24 Inaugural Concert of Amici della Musica (voice and piano, music by Rossini) or a Vocal and Piano Recital on Sept. 27 with music by Haydn & Beethoven. Both concerts will be held at Teatro della Pergola at 9:00 PM, at the special discounted price of 5 euro.
