Today the St. James community takes a moment to remember all those who lost their lives eleven years ago in the Twin Towers in New York, at the Pentagon in Virginia, and in the field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We pray for the victims, their families, and our country.

The Adult Forum Returns September 16

The Adult Forum will resume its series at 10:00 AM each Sunday beginning September 16. The Forum is held in the Undercroft.  

 

Bishop Pierre will be our first speaker.

Join us Sunday, September 16 following the 11:00 Eucharist for a cookout with Bishop Whalon. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served. Contributions of side dishes to share will be joyously accepted.

The cookout will be held in the garden in back of the Church.

Don't Miss the Ministry Fair!

St. James will be in full swing beginning September 23. All ministries at St. James are asked to make a presentation during the 11:00 AM Eucharist and to remain afterwards outside at the tables to solicit new members or to pass out publicity. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. Please join us! 


 

Acolyte Revolution!

Acolyte Training
 
Training for acolytes will be offered to older children, teens, and adults during Sunday School beginning September 23. The new Guild of Acolytes will be inter-generational for those who desire to serve at the Altar on Sundays. Please contact the Church Office if interested.
 
Children's Lending Library - New Hours

Opening Hours as of October 2012
 
Wednesdays 10:00-12:00
Thursdays 16:00-18:00 
Sundays 10:00-10:45 and 12:15-13:00

The library has a vast selection of books for children of all ages, from pre-reader through teenager. The Library has many activities during the year, including the annual Halloween, Christmas, and Easter parties, and bilingual book readings.

St. James Church will observe the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with the Blessing of the Animals at the 11:00 AM Eucharist on October 7. Bring your pets to Church for a blessing.

The Quirky Quilters will be Back in September
 
The Quirky Quilters quilting group will resume their meetings in September. The group meets on Fridays at 10:00 AM in the Meeting Room. The first meeting will be on September 7. Newcomers are very welcome.

The group is sponsoring a Quilting Show at the Church the weekend of October 12.

Monthly Food Drive

On the first Sunday of every month, the St. James Foodbank is holding a food drive. Please support this important ministry by donating any of the following items: canned tomatoes, canned beans, 1 liter packages of long shelf life milk, 500 gram packages of pasta, 1 kilo packages of rice, 80 gram and 160 gram cans of tuna, coffee, crackers, small boxes of juice, merendine.  

 

The shopping cart will be at the back of the Church, waiting to be filled!

Application forms for funding of charities within the Province of Florence are avaiable for Parishioners in the Office. The due date is no later than Sept. 30, 2012.

St. James' Town House, in the heart of Florence, is the perfect place to stay with friends or family. St. James' Town House is a three story apartment with its own entrance on via Bernardo Rucellai, next to the church rectory and part of the parish complex. It is a spacious 3-bedroom, 3-bath apartment, furnished with antiques, including a beautiful 1826 John Broadwood fortepiano, and overlooking the church and the rectory garden. It is fully equipped with linens for both bed and bath, along with kitchen supplies. There is satellite television that includes many English language programs, a washing machine, microwave oven, and iron. The bedrooms and living room are air conditioned. Off- street parking within the grounds of the church for one car.
