Art Exhibits at Palazzo Strozzi:
Americans in Florence - Sargent and the American Impressionists (March 3-July 15)
American Dreamers - Reality and Imagination in Contemporary American Art (CCC Strozzina, March 9 - July 15)
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of the Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci, Palazzo Strozzi explores American painters' relationship with Italy. Americans in Florence. Sargent and the American Impressionists focuses on John Singer Sargent, and on the Florentine circle around the influential young Italo- American collector Egisto Fabbri. The exhibition takes a close look at the influence Italy had on American painting in the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. It also looks at the impact of the Americans - fresh, young and boisterous - on Tuscan culture. A second exhibition, in the Palazzo Strozzi's Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina (CCCS), American Dreamers, takes a look at new trends in American contemporary art.
