Art Exhibits at Palazzo Strozzi:
Americans in Florence - Sargent and the American Impressionists (March 3-July 15)
American Dreamers - Reality and Imagination in Contemporary American Art (CCC Strozzina, March 9 - July 15)
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of the Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci, Palazzo Strozzi explores American painters' relationship with Italy. Americans in Florence. Sargent and the American Impressionists focuses on John Singer Sargent, and on the Florentine circle around the influential young Italo- American collector Egisto Fabbri. The exhibition takes a close look at the influence Italy had on American painting in the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. It also looks at the impact of the Americans - fresh, young and boisterous - on Tuscan culture. A second exhibition, in the Palazzo Strozzi's Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina (CCCS), American Dreamers, takes a look at new trends in American contemporary art.

Families with Young Children Invited to Participate
The Florence Questura is coordinating festivities for its annual "Police Day" (Festa della Polizia) on Saturday, May 26 at 9:00 AM in Piazza Signoria, and has asked the U.S. Consulate for assistance in finding a few American (or dual national) families with young children to attend the official ceremony and represent the U.S. It is our understanding that the ceremony involves a parade of sorts with horses and all manner of police vehicles so it will probably be a fun event for children.
Interested parties are invited to contact Kate at the Consulate at tel: 055/26695223 or via email at RakichKA@state.gov.
