Jesus repeatedly promises to set His followers free, and New Testament writers liken His passion and resurrection to the Exodus, when God freed the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt. As we approach Easter, then, it is a good time to reflect on what freedom in Christ means. This retreat offers an invitation to explore a range of spiritual practices that can help us begin to experience the freedom that Jesus offers. In particular, we will explore the ways in which Jesus can lead us out of some forms of bondage that we inflict on ourselves. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Clair+ at: revclair@gmail.com or +43 646720107 for a conversation.

Insatiable and Rapacious: Female Collectors of Antiquities in the Renaissance

The great collections of antiquities in early modern Europe are usually associated with male collectors, such as Roman cardinals. Isabella d'Este is probably the best known female collector of anticaglie in renaissance Italy, but she is often seen as the exception that proves the rule. There were in fact many other female collectors of ancient art in Italy and elsewhere in Europe and, while their efforts did not always have the same results as those of their male relatives, their desire to possess precious objects from the past was at least as strong. This illustrated talk looks at some of the less familiar female collectors, the objects they wished to own, and the rooms and pieces of furniture they used for display.

All are welcome
