Athlete Reaches Out In Appreciation
For those unsung heroes in our association, who work tirelessly for our sport, nothing makes it more worthwhile than to get a heartfelt thank you when you least expect it. One of our Association athletes reached out to one of us recently. "I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work and care you have put into the Junior Olympics over the years. I thought you should know that you have made a difference in the lives of many young people. I am one of them. ...the foundation that you helped give me in the Junior Olympics has led to opportunities I had never dreamed of........Two Sundays ago, on September 9th, I set an American Junior Record for the 25km race walk. I just wanted to take the time now to thank you for all that you have done for me and other young athletes. You are very much a part of the success that I have had. When I think of all the young people whose lives you've touched, I know that there will be future Olympians among them....I couldn't have accomplished what I have without your hard work and love for young athletes...."
This special letter was sent to Inez Finch. (Ms. Finch was previously Georgia Association Youth Chair, Georgia Association Executive Vice President, and is current Club Registration Chair and USATF Youth National Division South Zonal Rep.)
