Greetings!
Traditionally, a CHE training team works in one or two villages for three to five years before moving on to new villages. But can CHE be scaled up so that more communities are reached simultaneously?

Scaling Up CHE
|
CHE started in East Africa in the 1980s. Many organizations have been trained, and their leaders were committed to a wholistic approach. But they faced some dilemmas:
- In spite of their efforts, poverty was worsening.
- They were frustrated--preventable problems still persisted.
- They wanted to improve their evangelism and discipleship.
- They wanted local ownership, avoiding dependency.
So, in several areas, they tried an approach of scaling up CHE. A training team of four people, for example, could work in four villages simultaneously. Each trainer takes responsibility in one village, working there two days a week, and assisted in other villages. Paid master trainers work alongside local volunteer trainers.
In the second year, the trainers only worked in the village one day a week. Over time, they reduced their visits as the local leaders took on more responsibility. This allowed them to expand to more areas. In each area, an experienced trainer worked alongside new trainers.
What were the results of this scaled up CHE?
- Rapid expansion of CHE programs
- Reduced costs, since they worked with many volunteer trainers
- Many people trained as committee members or CHEs.
- More effective evangelism and discipleship
- More community projects
But there are some challenges as well! Learn more about through the PowerPoint CHE Scaleup and the accompanying handout. |
Good News About Injustice
|
We are all surrounded by injustice, from minor rebuffs to major issues like abuse and human trafficking. But what exactly is injustice? What is God's perspective on injustice? And why does God permit injustice to occur? How can we respond and confront injustice? This new series of lessons is based on a study guide to Good News About Injustice by Gary Haugen of the International Justice Mission. Each lesson includes a real-life story about injustice, as well as thought-provoking questions. You could use these lessons in your Sunday school class or small group, or to train CHEs. Check out the new lessons on Injustice. Thanks for being part of the Global CHE Network. Let us know your thoughts about how we can network together. Give us your comments and suggestions by writing to us, or by commenting on the CHE Forum.
