Corning, NY - August 2, 2011 - Corning's Gaffer District is pleased to announce the plans for a new restaurant on Historic Market Street
Located at 10 E. Market Street near Centerway Square, the restaurant is part of a complete interior and exterior renovation to the building, which was recently purchased by Corning residents Dave Jacobs and Amanda O'Hara.
As the former site of The Tea Chest, the three-story building will undergo significant interior renovation and construction, includi ng the addition of four luxury apartments on the upper floors. Upon completion of the residential space, Jacobs and O'Hara plan to open a restaurant, 10 Market, on the first floor.
Born of both a childhood dream and a serious passion for local, fresh foods, Jacobs hopes to serve the community by offering a new "farm-to-table" spin on the restaurant's theme. Menu items will include as many locally-harvested and produced ingredients as possible, and the ten-item menu will change daily to reflect the freshest offerings available. Customers will also enjoy the experience of an open kitchen, along with several tables and a full bar.
Jacobs and O'Hara are no strangers to the downtown business district. Jacobs currently owns and operates a private law practice on Historic Market Street, a block away from where O'Hara started the business Earth Paint & Fire, which continues to thrive today. Having a firsthand view of the Gaffer District has cultivated a strong feeling of involvement for Jacobs, who notes, "Businesses on the street are vital to the success of our downtown. We are proud to live, work, and now begin this new development in such a great community."
Officials at Corning's Gaffer District welcome the development with open arms. Executive Director Coleen Fabrizi notes, "We are very excited to add another example to the list of current business owners who are choosing to invest in the revitalization of an historic building in Corning's Gaffer District."
Jacobs and O'Hara plan to research grant options and pursue a historic tax credit for the building. Upon complete interior renovation and rehabilitation, the apartments and restaurant are expected to open by Spring, 2013.
