Corning, NY - May 10, 2011 - Corning's Gaffer District is excited to welcome internationally-renowned fashion and lifestyle icon Tommy Hilfiger® to Historic Market Street. The retailer has chosen 43-45 E. Market Street, site of the former Treu Office Supply, as its location.
For the past three decades, the name Tommy Hilfiger has been synonymous with fashion and style around the world - a vision brought to life by the local native whose business began in Elmira, NY more than 30 years ago. Hilfiger's ties to the local community remain strong, and the popular fashion line seemed like the perfect fit for downtown Corning. Betsy, sister of fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger notes, "We've always been interested in opening a store near our hometown. With such an emphasis on business development, tourism growth and collaboration among community partners, downtown Corning is the obvious choice for this endeavor." Betsy Hilfiger, also a native of Elmira, NY, will be directly involved with the day-to-day operation of the store. Hilfiger notes, "I truly look forward to being a part of this exciting venture and re-enter the community that I call 'home'."
Known regionally as a destination for shopping, entertainment, museums and dining, Corning's Gaffer District strives to attain the right mix of service and retail businesses for its more than half of a million visitors each year.
Business and property development is a cornerstone of the downtown, and remains an area of focus to ensure both high occupancy rates for residential and commercial properties along with a diversity of options for locals and visitors. Corning Enterprises has been highly successful in assisting in this process, and continues to devote resources to the growth and expansion of the company's corporate hometown. President G. After undergoing interior and exterior renovations, the store plans to open by September 1, 2011. The signature retailer and anchor property will feature a full line of Tommy Hilfiger apparel brands along with fashion and lifestyle accessories.
