Corning, NY - January 21, 2011 - Corning's Gaffer District is excited to announce its listing in a new downloadable digital app - Chocoholic Traveler - providing chocolate fans across the nation with an interactive menu of the country's most decadent destinations.
Born in 2007 from the imagination of a local chocolate lover, the trail has
grown to be the flagship of the Experience Trails menu. With more than 25 participating businesses, the trail highlights chocolate specialties throughout the district including menu items, beverages, candles, soap and even tobacco. Year after year, visitors continue to recognize downtown Corning as a must-visit for any chocolate lover. "The power of chocolate is unmistakable; it reaches across every demographic and season. It's the epitome of the reflection that there is something for everyone in Corning's Gaffer District. We are thrilled with the opportunity to expand our trail into the digital world," notes Coleen Fabrizi, Executive Director of Corning's Gaffer District.
The introduction of the Experience Trails into the digital world is welcome.
Apple's iPad and iPhone continue to be "hot" items with app downloads available on every topic imaginable. A trend on the rise: travel guide apps to download on either iPad or iPhone. Travel writer Kay Harwell Fernandez just published Chocoholic Traveler, an app that takes readers to chocolate trails, tours, festivals, museums, factory tours, themed travel, spas, cafes/bars and artisan/bean to bar chocolatiers.
Fernandez agrees that Corning's Gaffer District's Chocolate Trail is an example of where travelers can go for a whiff of chocolate. Fernandez notes, "The scenic Finger Lakes region is the backdrop for a visit to this historic area. A self-guided tour allows the traveler to explore signature chocolate items while basking in the warm welcome from 200 small businesses, including candy and fudge shops, and a chocolate lovers package at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott."
In its second year as sponsor of the trail, the Fairfield Inn by
Marriott has seen continued growth in interest from its overnight guests. Market Sales Manager Lorie Wasilawaski notes, "We are thrilled with the tremendous success of our Chocolate Trail package and it has been exciting to watch the number of people enjoying the package increase year after year. Every year we have seen more interest from local businesses as well as individuals inquiring about the package. It has truly been a win-win situation for all involved!"
