The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes Relocates to Historic Market Street

Corning, NY - January 6, 2011 - Corning's Gaffer District is pleased to welcome The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes to Historic Market Street.  Located at 52 West Market Street in the site of the former Rotsell's Deli, The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes recently relocated from an office on Pulteney Street.

The orchestra has roots that are among the oldest of Corning's downtown business district.  Under its current name, OSFL has been a staple of the regional arts scene for more than 15 years.  In the mid 90's, the current organization was formed by combining the Corning Philharmonic Society and the Elmira Symphony - whose inception dates back to the late 19th century.

The rich history of the organization has led to a current subscriber base of more OSFLthan 600 members which, when combined with the general admission audience, leads to sold-out venues for performances time and time again.  Under the masterful direction of Music Director and Conductor Toshiyuki Shimada, the orchestra boasts more than 50 professional personnel from various points throughout the Northeast United States.  Shimada is well-respected in the industry, and in addition to OSFL, his director credits include the Yale University Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.

The new office location affords the organization significant space and visibility.  Janet Newcomb, Executive Director, is thrilled about the new office, noting, "This relocation is so significant for us - the location provides tremendous exposure, and it's wonderful to operate in the cultural and business center of our downtown."   Since relocation, Newcomb and Devin Sherman, Manager of Operations (pictured), have both seen a surge of interest from passing pedestrians and traffic.

The office is currently open for visitors, membership inquiries and ticket information.  For more information, please call (607) 936-2873 or visit www.osfl.org
